Harsh reality outside the bozza

Yesterday I saw a feature on Euronews’ “Perspectives” programme. It was about a zoo in the UK that has never had such long queues. The people in the queue are not there to see the animals. They’re there to apply for jobs. So far, 3000 people have applied for 150 seasonal, minimum-wage jobs: ticket-booth clerks, sandwich-makers, waitressing, cleaning and so on. One applicant said he’d do anything, even pick up the rubbish. The people in the queue included a man in a pin-striped suit. The reporter said that applicants included former CEOs and personal assistants.

…wait a sec…is the UK in the EU?

Saw that also. Our rock is about to be shattered, and we’re rearranging the deck chairs. Pity.

Harsh reality, indeed. I notice people giving up their flats and selling their cars. They quit insurances and don’t pay their electricity bills anymore. I read in a German newspaper, customers are buying ‘more potatoes and carrots’, to save money on food. Two of my ex-colleagues are homeless now. Modern times.

Yes, but not in the Eurozone. Traditional England. First they opted to stay out of the EU but had to bite the bullet and joined later (at a price…of course) under Ted Heath. Now they’re at it again…keeping out of the Eurozone and hanging on to their Sterling which is now worth almost nothing. Maybe this time they’ll learn – who knows?

From CEO to minimum wage. Personally, I’d rather catch the bullet train.

Jack: you can do that if you have no dependents.

A harsh reality inside the bozza which is becoming apparent is that those CEO’s, personal assistants etc phone up their friends who are working abroad and ask them for a job. And if their friend is in a high enough position, he will see to it to get rid of the locals and install the friend instead – at foreign salary levels of course – and all in the name of cost-cutting. Seen it happen more than once.
