Take it easy - Attard Montalto is coming from behind

Headline in Malta Today Midweek:

‘Cuschieri takes sixth seat as Attard-Montalto comes from behind.’

Who writes these things?

  1. Meerkat :) says:

    Joseph Cuschieri wrote it, Daph.

  2. John II says:

Erm …. what is wrong with that headline?

“Comes from behind” is a common idiomatic expression, most often used in a sports context.

[Daphne – It means something else entirely in a non-sporting context. And please start calling yourself John II as there is already a John on this blog.]

  3. john says:

I once got a piece of friendly advice before taking up a new job with a well known boss: “Keep my back to the wall over there if I were you, old boy.”

  4. Mario De Bono says:

I can’t stop laughing at this. I really split my sides. Poor Attard Montalto. If anything, he is a proven ladies’ man.

  5. maria says:

Joseph Muscat looks terrified with this bear hug from Joseph Cuschieri.

  6. Andrea says:

    Full steam ahead!

  7. Alfred Spiteri says:

A friend of mine on Facebook called Joseph Cuschieri “That dweeb, who played John the Baptist to Joseph Muscat’s Messiah” Very apt I thought.

  8. Yet another John says:

Maybe there is some hidden message. After all Malta Today has a reputation for factual investigative reporting.

  9. H.P. Baxxter says:

Never mind, have a look at this. Now THIS is what I call an MEP:

[Daphne – No wonder John Attard Montalto was so keen to be re-elected.]

    • H.P. Baxxter says:

And no wonder she’s wearing body armour then.

    • JoeM says:

“Ms Basescu, who ran as an independent, is bound for Strasbourg after winning 4.22 per cent of votes in the European parliamentary elections, held on Sunday in Romania.”

If only one of our own independent candidates’ looks were like hers, instead of the whole lot looking like an assortment of characters from Michael Jackson’s Thriller!

We might have stood a chance of electing The Third Force.

  10. Mary says:

I was going to suggest some Blue Pain Relief but there is no need. It seems that Joseph Cuschieri did you a world of good – keep on grinning!

    • NGT says:

That’s an old one Mary and anyway, you should have realised that after all the celebrations, PN are still running the country. So let us know if it’s any good in four years’ time.

Incidentally, I thought, for a very long time, that the Syrian git on telly was advertising a product called Blue Berry Leaf!

      • Tony Camilleri says:

The “Syrian Git” of Blue Pain Refief fame was actually interviewed on Super One on Monday. He was foaming at the mouth babbling something along the lines as the “poplu” is now “imxabba” and that id-demokrazija titlob li l-gvern issa jimxi ahjar.

[Daphne – You’re right. He was interviewed in the street talking bollocks, and my husband said ‘Dak mhux tal-Blue Pain Relief?’]

  11. Mark 2 says:

Gay innuendos are so passé. Almost on a par with sexist comments.

[Daphne – This is not a politically correct blog. Feel free to pass all the sexist comments you wish, whether passe or not. I do so myself, usually in respect of men.]

    • Mark 2 says:

Really? It amuses me as to a person’s perception of where to draw the line between political correctness or otherwise. No nigger jokes in this blog, as is rightly the case. Methinks the dividing line is not set in stone.

      • Marc Antony says:

Advice: when Attard-Montalto is coming from behind you, don’t look back, it’ll only make you more nervous (taking people from behind is Attard-Montalto’s trick), just get on with the job in hand and and you won’t suffer any more blows.

Now how ’bout that for some passe gay innuendo?

  12. Harry Purdie says:

Very dangerous to bow to the supreme leader in the glass house. Less dangerous to genuflect to him. Much more difficult to be approached from the rear.

  13. mf says:

    Hi Daphne,

Nothing to do with the post, but this might be of interest to those who are in Gozo at the time:

    thanks and regards
    Mario

  14. M Vassallo says:

Did it cross someone’s mind that if the Nationalists, after voting for all their candidates, had give Marlene their no. 11 vote, then Cuschieri would have been shunted out of the EP and Marlene elected instead?

Another point about this election, 56% of surplus of Simon Busuttil went to David Casa and 59% of Claudette’s votes went to JAM. Is this just people voting 1, 2, 3, … from top candidate to bottom?

    • kev says:

M Vassallo – what makes you think PN supporters were interested in electing Mizzi instead of Cuschieri?

      • Corinne Vella says:

Didn’t you say you’re super busy in Brussels and that the minor issue of the EP elections is distant history to you? It looks like that was just a tall story.

      • Mandy Mallia says:

No, Cora – Just ANOTHER tall story.

  15. George Azzopardi says:

    The spatula paid off!

  16. M Vassallo says:

    Isn’t it a better alternative?

  17. edgar gatt says:

M.Vassallo. The last person that I wanted to see elected was Marlene Mizzi. Even Joe Cuschieri is better than her.

    • Tony Camilleri says:

I share the same view: her atitude is very much top down and know-it-all, although she did try her best to appease the typical Labour voter with comments like the EU-left-to-IVA-voters-by-nanna-in-the-testment. She comes out as a veritable snob. I prefer 100 Joseph Cuschieris, who is at least trying to do his best, than this super-dog-woman.

    • tony pace says:

Depends at what Eddie my boy? miaow

  18. Nigel says:

Some are saying tha the 35,000 more votes that the PL polled in these elections were protest votes against the PN.

What about the 70,000 voters that did not actually vote?

If the PL think that they have won anything tangible at this time, they would be smart to have another think.
Maybe Jason Micallef’s statement on BondiPlus that the PL will reduce the water and electricity bills on day one after they win the next election might convince them. What a twerp.

  19. davina sullivan says:

Alfred Sant had promised the removal of Vat. Remember?

  20. Nigel says:

Going back to the subject, coming directly from behind Marlene, and pushing Joseph Cuschieri out of the way in the process must have been extremely enjoyable for JAM. Attaboy John.
