Voter turn-out – 79%

It was 79%. Turn-out was low in predominantly Nationalist areas and high in predominantly Labour areas, as forecast by surveys and predicted by commonsense.
Turn-out at the last round five years ago was 82%.

The Labour thugs will soon be out carcading then.
As usual some ”bright” Nationalists missed the wood for the trees, and ended up cutting off their nose to spite their face.
Issa after the win the LP will come out screaming for a national election.
Of course they will – that’s the same stunt Sant pulled last time by saying that Labour represented the majority.
I wonder why.
These figures are unheard of in Britain. Our Euro elections: I think we’ll be more than lucky if even 50% turn out.
I wouldn’t jump to conclusions that there will be a Labour victory as we know what happened last year.
[Daphne – This is not a general election. The results are very easy to predict even weeks ahead of time.]
Can I have a piece of your MEP when baked and ready? Why all this nonsense about the European election. Here in the UK, Gordon Brown has lost all support both in the local council elections and even within his cabinet but still, no one bothers about the European election. When are we Maltese going to grow up?

Get ready to party!
I will, of course, vote Gonzi in 2013 but why not enjoy a Cisk or two today?
[Daphne – Because I have a magazine to work on. Sunday is not a day of rest for me.]
The end of the time is coming!
[Daphne – Excuse me? The end of what? We had three Labour MEPs yesterday and we will have three today. If you’re speaking of that coalition your AD is planning with Labour – old news. You’ve been at it since February 2008 at least. And I think you mean ‘the end is nigh.’ So go and take your Valium. You’re not going to be finance minister in Labour/AD’s coalition government onb Tuesday.]
yes, despite all your rantings we will have 3 PL, 2PN. We could have had 2/2/1; but you and the Nats prefer Labour to AD!
[Daphne – I don’t get your drift, sorry. I make no distinction between Labour and AD: the grouping is MLPAD as far as I’m concerned, and as far as you’re concerned, too.]
I’m astounded how thick a person can be, despite being an accountancy graduate.
Tonio, there’s a particular element in certain people which is extremely hard to understand.
What song are you playing, Edward? “Run rabbit, run”, maybe? Labour’s “victory” is also AD’s loss, though it looks like you’re pretty keen on cutting off your nose to spite your face. And all this while you’re living in the UK when you were so anti-EU in the first place. Amazing grace!
Well done to all who stayed home – an action that can only be described with a Maltese saying: “Taqta l-bajd biex tinki l-mara.”
Well done to all those Nationalists who stayed at home. and well done to all those nationalists who voted Labour .. din kienet docca kiesha ghal Wenzu Gonzi !!!! … jekk qed imexxi hu fil-partit nazzjonalista !!!!!!!!!
Have been watching the discussion on Net TV. Frustrated by all the talk that if Labour get 3 seats, then Muscat hasn’t won anything. Until Georg Sapiano joined the discussion and poured some cold water. How refreshing to see somebody within the PN camp with his feet on the ground. Dr Gonzi should dump most of his advisers and get a couple of Georg Sapianos.
55% for PL… if we consider the 6th seat, with all probability it will go to PL. That will make it 4-2 not 3-2.
[Daphne – Going on the sample, Labour got 56% of the vote and the Nationalists got just under 42%. On this basis, the sixth seat is likely to go to a Nationalist MEP.]
EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT ELECTION
PL – est 56% PN – est 41%
AD — OTHERS —
TURNOUT: 78.81%
Seen on euronews :

Right I’m off to watch something more important on TV. Hopefully Roger Federer finally winning Roland Garros! (worth more exclamation marks if he does win).
Dr Muscat said that the message that the Labour Party had sent out to the Maltese and Gozitan people urging them to form part of the new political movement was welcomed, and that it had won the absolute majority in the EP Parliament elections.
Dr Muscat said how this movement was made up of a coalition of people which come from all walks of life and of all social classes, across political boundaries which united the whole of the Maltese and Gozitan peoples.
This coalition, Dr Muscat said, is a sign that this is the end of partisan politics, “the end of blue and red distinctions.”
“This is not the point of arrival for this political movement. It is only the point of departure,” Dr Muscat stressed.
Dr Muscat however also stressed that this is also the moment for all to act with civility and composure.
“The party will not tolerate any one breaking the law, or shelter or support any who do.” He added that the labour party is against violence, also urging caution against any provocation.
The Labour Party also announced that there will be celebrations held outside of the national Labour HQ at Hamrun at (1900hrs) 7 pm.
The General Secretary of the Nationalist Party Paul Borg Olivier also confirmed the result.
