Karmenu is on Muammar Gaddafi's selection committee

Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici presents the Gaddafi International Prize for Human Rights to Turkish PM Tayyeb Erdogan, in Tripoli last November

Did you know that Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici sits on the selection committee for the Muammar Gaddafi International Human Rights Award? No, I didn’t either.

That sheds new light for me on the selection of his puppetmaster Dom Mintoff for the $250,000 award last year. First he chose him, then he went to the ceremony, held in Malta instead of Tripoli to accommodate the old pain in the butt, to receive it on his behalf, when he decided he was indisposed.

I do not know if this report is correct but Al Jazeeera has reported Gaddafi may step down http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-12307698.

[Daphne – Not if they sourced it from their former employee at Malta Today.]

He would step down, wouldn’t he? I mean with all this massive military buildup, the sky buzzing with AWACS planes above us, our ports jam packed with warships and all that ready to pounce on Gaddafi what do you expect?

No contest. Mintoff got l-ghoxrin punt.

I suppose Karmenu might put in a word to the Committee so that the 2011 award will go to John Dalli. $250,000 may prove to be adequate compensation in case Gaddafi’s military forces, accidentally, blow up his house in Tripoli.

Mintoff or his heirs, as he is living in la-la land now, should do an LSE , that is, give the prize money for scholarships.

  4. Dr Francis Saliba says:

Mintoff’s points were six in number, and one of the points was the legitimacy of using violence to attain political ends – that presumab;y qualified him to obtain Gaddafi’s peace prize collected by KMB.

Could some learned historian please divulge when these six points proliferated to “twenty” and which are exactly the other fourteen points?

Last night, I think, Gaddafi got an ultimatum: stop the massacre, or else.

  6. Ollie says:

Appearances are truly deceptive. KMB qisu wiehed tal-MUZEW – no insult meant to the latter, but you get my drift.

Eternal compromise whilst conniving with despots, tyrants and conmen — a very Catholic trait.

  7. Jo says:

KMB looks like a saint – very humble, gentle and will listen to you attentively and with respect.

He is very gently spoken and never raises his voice.

However these gentle traits hide a person who wouldn’t think twice about locking you out of your job and leaving children without proper schooling for thirteen weeks. He is a lawyer who studied trade union law- and was the GWU’s lawyer- but thought nothing of asking teachers to sign a paper in which we were to renounce our allegiance to the MUT.

That’s how much he really believed in trade unions. So much for the right of the workers to unite and better their conditions of work.

  8. La Redoute says:

Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici has said that he has been in contact with Libyan ministers, though not with Gaddafi himself.

He hasn’t volunteered any information about their discussions or about the outcome of those discussions.

  9. Joe Scerri says:

What is the difference between KMB, Mintoff, Gaddafi and Erdogan?

Two are dictators and two wanted to be, but parliamentary elections got in the way.
