Benghazi: a mini-boom in homespun media

Benghazi is discovering the joys of freedom of expression, with a mini-boom in homespun media. Newspapers are produced in living-rooms, printed on old presses and in some cases, pasted on the notice-boards of public buildings like old-style bills.
People are writing about all sorts. The Miami Herald (8 April) quotes Kheidar al-Ghanay, 50, who said the old papers in the days of oppression and control were all the same:
“Page 1: Article about Gadhafi. Page 2: Obituaries. Page 3: Local news. After that: Sports. Everyone would read the obituaries and the sports, but skip the stuff about Gadhafi,” he said. “We’d draw a mustache on him and throw it away.”
It sounds curiously familiar.

What a pity Benghazi is not getting the support it deserves – indeed a pity — the world is cruel.
News from Misurata:
”Misrata death toll from this morning’s attack is 23, most are women and children, spokesman says. Among the dead, a 2-year-old boy, his mother, aunty & sister. All killed while asleep. port is now closed.”
Is Tonio Borg going to repeat his call for the Libyan government “to change its position”?
Probably it’s the way he is wired .
Tonio Borg himself does not strike me as one who changes his position himself. He comes across as a rather square kind of man.

When it comes to the journalism awards night and we still have not had one Maltese hack with boots on the ground till now , if the situation remains the same, any award is hollow. If I am correct no Maltese journalist has spent a couple of nights out at sea on a patrol boat documenting the tough jobs that get done by our maritime force. T
he two political forces on these islands have polarised everything and ruined true journalistic passion. My comments do not include Daphne as she sticks her neck out more than a turkey in a turkey shoot.
It really DOES sound familiar!
It does sound familiar, except we use to draw the moustache also on the lira, oops sorry on the 2 liri.
