Jason Micallef on Facebook: "My personal glory comes second to a Labour victory"
Most politicians, even those who are clearly on one big ego trip, have the good sense to say that they’re not in politics for themselves, but to give something back, to be of service to the country and the public, blah blah.
But not Jason Micallef (to stick with the theme du jour ) because he’s different. The man with half a brain has put the half he owns on display once again and tells us, without quite understanding the implications, that he’s contesting the general election for his personal glory – though that comes second to a Labour victory.
Here he is on his Facebook wall:
GRAZZI lilkom ilkoll li matul il-jum ktibtuli jew cempiltuli personalment mal-ahbar li se nkun qed nikkontesta l-elezzjoni generali mal-PL. L-ghan ewlieni tieghi jibqa li l-Partit Laburista jirbah l-elezzjoni li jmiss kif tant kull Laburist/a jixtiequ. Il-glorja personali tigi wara. Mill-gdid grazzi u nassigurakom li apprezzajt immens.

He is one of the assets the PN will have come 2013.
Without people like him they are most certainly doomed.
Compare the attitudes of these two queens:
‘Duty first, self second’ Queen Elizabeth II
‘Il-Pariti Laburista jirbah l-elezzjoni…il-glorja personali tigi wara’ Jason Micallef I
Somehow the statement by Jason Micallef “My personal glory comes second to a Labour victory” seems to be paraphrasing of what Himmler would have said when the Nazi Party in 1923 contested the German elections.
“L-ghan ewlieni tieghi jibqa li l-Partit Laburista jirbah l-elezzjoni li jmiss kif tant kull Laburist/a jixtiequ. Il-glorja personali tigi wara.”
If that were the case in 2008, would he not have resigned his position of Secretary General as soon as his Partit Laburista lost the elections?
“he’s contesting the general election for his personal glory – though that comes second to a Labour victory.”
U iva, mhux kulhadd hekk jaghmel? Massage parlours exist, you know.
This whole party needs an enema.
Jason Micallef: Public Enema No. 1.
So Labour comes first. It would have been so touching if they came together.
Did somone say thème du jour?
Ah, creme du jour.
Jason prefers to bring up the rear. Is that not with the theme du jour?
Are there any photographs of Anglu Farrugia in a compromising sexual position with an elephant? If so, Jason is willing to pay good money for them. He can use the services of Labour’s latest recruit to email them out to every address in Mosta.
Who’s on top? Worried about the elephant.
I presume it translates into a load of old bollocks.
Go to a compass of devils, Defni.
I’ve heard of politicians who wish to contest elections to be able to work for their country, others to see their party in government, others because they have to correct injustices.
I have still to meet someone who loves his country and party so much that if elected he will be serving his country for free.
It’s a Labour victory, first. Hot on its heels comes personal glory. Why am I not surprised that the chance to serve the country and its citizens has no place on his priorities list.
Do any of them have a clue that when the first flush of the euphoria of victory is over, they’re going to have to face up the responsibility of running a country?
Follow their (former) leader. He later said “I was learning on the job” a.k.a. making things up as he went along while everyone else floundered.
CET comes to mind.
After MLP’s defeat, he didn’t have to attack George Abela on prime time television. He showed no finesse.
I wonder how he got to be the general secretary of a major party in Malta.
Now that he announced his intentions to the nation for the next election, I sense he is getting ready for a battle for the post of MLP’s leadership.
Can’t wait for the show to start.
Cannot understand Jason’s decision, considering he has so many enemies within his beloved PL – uless, of course, all is forgiven and forgotten
I don’t like Jason, never liked him to be honest. But every politician contests the general elections for some degree of personal glory. Some pretend that they don’t .. while others say it out loud. Dan bhal meta f’xi Miss Malta xi tfajla tigi 2nd place u tpoggi dik il fake smile u tghid jien l-aqwa li nippartecipa. U go qalha tkun qed tidaj dagha fahxi.
The comparison with Miss Malta is very appropriate.
hence why I used it :)
“Glorja personali”. Not even Lowell is that pompous.
This is the sad reality of the PL, Daphne. They are not in it to ‘do a better job at running this county and giving us a better quality of life’.
Their interest is pure power – and they see it as ‘their turn at the wheel’ – a turn they have been repeatedly denied because of their gross incompetence.
What is happening now makes it even worse. We arguably have one of the best prime ministers this country has ever had. This government has seized the bull by its horns on the Drydocks, the bus service, taxi service, and other monopolies.
It created the right conditions, through smart policies, for saving and creating jobs during the world’s worst economic crisis. There are good tourist numbers in spite of disasters all around us. The subsidy on electricity consumptionhas gone. The sea is clean. Divorce legislation has gone through, so that’s out of the way.
Yet the government has the worst PR machine ever, and in a situation where people are tired and fed up and communication is more important than ever. Any announcements about new initiatives gets drowned out by baseless screeching. The way the ministerial pay issue was handled was a disaster.
PR is something you can solve – why are the Nationalists incapable of taking the tough decisions internally but so willing to take them in matters of policy?
It hurts because ultimately we will all suffer, except for people like Jason Micallef and the Super One crowd who will find themselves on a gravy train.
You will have a field day with Labour in power – every day will give you so much material you will be spoilt for choice.
But the sensitivity of our service-based industries is at stake – it takes brains to devise and manage those sectors and dream up positive new initiatives every time there is opposition from the EU or competitors within the EU.
The PL will have been holed up in Opposition for a quarter of a century – a lifetime for many – and they have never come to terms with the fact that it is they who are the problem – what they represent, who they are and their lack of insight, foresight and brainpower.
As expected, service to the country does not feature in his things to do.
“Wara” doesn’t mean “second” (as you surely know :D)….but still, the guy is a tool.
[Daphne – It means later or afterwards and in this context, second.]
Kellem ragun, mela: The only way is up, Labour.
As usual, the whole point is winning. What they do with the prize is immaterial – to them, at least.
What an arse!
Labour and this preening nincompoop deserve each other.
Prosit and ………..KEEP IT UP Jason.
Personal glory is important to every politician. I don’t really know anything about this guy (only started paying a bit of attention to Maltese politics like two months ago really) but I mean the only stupid thing he did was admit what is true for every single politician in existence.
Some are smart enough not to say it, others aren’t. So it was stupid of him to say so, but it would be even more idiotic to act like personal glory isn’t the main reason the vast majority of politicians enter politics, as some of you are implying in the comments.
But Muscat has managed to bring all – irrespective of who – into the fold: the Old Mintffian riff-raff like Joe Debono Grech, Joe Grima, Alex Sceberras Trigona, Karmenu Vella, and the rest.l The PN had better be very careful and try at least to remedy the I-couldn’t-care-less attitude that is creating rot within the PN support base.
Does P L mean P**ti Laburisti?
Jesus, how thick is this guy? What’s really ‘brilliant’ about this, is that his supporters won’t even realise what he’s saying here.
““My personal glory comes second to a Labour victory”
I don’t find anything surprising – to Labour supporters the good of the country “comes second to a Labour victory”.
WOW!!!! He survived the earthquake within the PL?
