Joseph digests, cuts and pastes

Quiet, Edward - I'm digesting

In The Sunday Times today:

The Sunday Times:
The Labour Party came up with 51 proposals in response to the Budget. Were you involved in drawing them up?

Edward Scicluna:
No. I was involved in certain evaluation of the economic situation as outlined in the minister’s speech. I submitted my evaluation and it was up to the Leader of the Opposition to digest, cut and paste.

Then we’re surprised that Nakita cuts and pastes..

  2. Bill Gates says:

I know about the Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V shortcuts for cut and paste, but can someone please help me find the short cut for the “digest” function?

  3. bob says:

Tal-Klabb 51 – As usual Labour lags years behind. It has now become Club 51, only in my days 51 stood for the 51% majority won in the 1981 elections not 51 proposals (?). Thank you PL for reminding those who may have forgotten.

  4. A. Charles says:

This can’t be true. Has the reporter misheard the esteemed economist?

  5. mc says:

Is this the best that Joseph Muscat can do – cut and paste from somebody else’s analysis? Is there any discussion within the LP to develop the right policies for our country?

How will Joseph Muscat take decisions when he is Prime Minister? It seems that he will ‘cut and paste’ from the opinions of those around him and end up with a hotch potch.

  6. oldtimer says:

He is certainly good at cutting and pasting

  7. Neil Dent says:

Cut and paste – sums up the current MLPPL administration very well, from the very top to the very bottom, with precious little in between.

  8. ciccio2011 says:

OK, I’ve cut and pasted, now let us digest this:

“The Times: The Labour Party came up with 51 proposals in response to the Budget. Were you involved in drawing them up?

Edward Scicluna: No. I was involved in certain evaluation of the economic situation as outlined in the minister’s speech. I submitted my evaluation and it was up to the Leader of the Opposition to digest, cut and paste.

The Times: If you had to offer a critique of his 51 pledges and proposals after you heard some of the criticism that followed, how would you evaluate them? Is this the direction the country needs to take or are the points vague?

Edward Scicluna: I think it was partly economic, partly political. Ten questions were asked, 51 answers were given. Obviously I think policy goes further than that. For me there are priorities like education, health, pensions, taxation… So many reforms are required to improve the economy.”

It is clear that Edward Scicluna was not impressed with the 51 “proposals” which he calls “answers” to the 10 questions. And then he adds “Policy goes further than that.”
There you go. He just rubbished Joseph’s 51 “proposals.” He basically said that those 51 “proposals” are nowhere near policy.

At this point, we know that Edward Scicluna did not draw up the 51 proposals. That answers Daphne’s question in an earlier post.
    Good.
Who drew those “proposals” up? I have a feeling that Simon Busuttil was right when he said that Joseph came up with them in under one hour.

Based on what Edward Scicluna has said and what he has not said, Labour is back to square one. They have no policy as yet. Where are Labour’s policies?

No wonder his speeches sound like a regurgitated mess (or is it called biomass/biomess nowadays?).

  10. Francis Saliba MD says:

Not a very high opinion of the Opposition leader’s digestion if it leads only to “cut and paste”.

“Tomorrow’s politicians should be technical – Opposition leader”

  12. Lilla says:

They should make it the new Labour motto, it seems they’re all at it.

Labour – Cut, Paste and Hope.

All we do is cut and paste, and hope you’ll vote for us anyway.

  13. Allo Allo says:

He sure came up with a lot of crap after the digestion.

    Nice uniform … which school?

    On a totally unrelated note..

A massive well done for today’s issue of Taste. All the recipes are sumptuous and mouth-watering.. Can’t wait to try out all of them..It provided a welcome escape from all the Euro doom and gloom in the papers.

[Daphne – Thank you. Magazines should be all about escapism.]

Yes, they’re wonderful. And we know they are because we know that Kev reads them, all the way out in the Brussels suburbs.

They must fly them in specially for him.

  16. Min Weber says:

    Now it’s this curious.

Today’s Sunday Times carried an article on PP Busuttil. Beneath it (Prof) Dominic Fenech wrote (and ubiquitous G Demartino duly replied):

    Dominic Fenech

Easier apparently to transform the country than the countryside.

    Reply to Dominic Fenech

    Giovann Demartino

    WHat’s the point?

Now, what I find curious is Prof Fenech’s intervention. Why does he feel the need to discredit Busuttil? (That’s the point, I think, Mr Demartino.)

Prof Fenech has never told us what he knows about the criminal events related to the political scene of the late 1970s and early 1980s. For instance, we would be very interested to learn what he knows about the burning down of Strickland House. And many, many other things.

    We are waiting, Dom.

  17. 'Angus Black says:

It seems that Joseph did more cutting than pasting or he found nothing from Edward Scicluna worth pasting.

Instead he went to his reliable source, Karmenu Vella.

  18. John F. says:

Cutting and pasting seems to be Labour’s favourite pastime. First Nikita, then Kurt, now Joseph. Can’t they be original?

  19. John Schembri says:

Scicluna seems to be part of the “new race of politicians Malta needs”.

Did Joseph actually say “razza ta’ politici”?

    http://www.maltatoday.com.mt/en/newsdetails/news/national/Tomorrow-s-politicians-need-to-be-technical-Opposition-leader

Interestingly Labour does not need much bureaucracy and procedures to approve its candidates.

The PN seems to be burdened with a lot of work. It has not yet vetted its candidates and we’re a year away from the elections.

Are these prospective candidates to do nothing and be chided by the party like Manuel Delia was?

What will happen if a prospective candidate gathers a following and the party disapproves his candidacy at the eleventh hour?

Labour is quick and efficient: in no time Cyrus sees trouble coming his way, switches alligiance and is accepted by Joseph. Within a few months he’s representing the PL at the Socialist International together with Joseph.

  20. oldtimer says:

At the moment Joseph will accept anything – yes, anything, as long as it icreases the chance of a majority vote in the next elections. He is determined; and he shows it.

After that, well, then he will start choosing the wheat from the chaff.
