Toni Abela’s sartorial inspiration: Borat

I just had to steal this image from Paul Gatt’s blog and show it to you, just in case you hadn’t seen it already. Regular readers of this blog will know that Toni Abela’s head has NOT been photoshopped onto a Borat outfit.
It’s something he actually wore for a publicity shot for his Super One show, Otello.
You’ll find Paul’s blog at wwww.pawlugatt.com

Borat is the better-looking one on the left (not the one in a dress – that’s Ruth Frendo).
As my grandma used to say, ‘ragel imlibbes’.
Hahaha. That made me chuckle.
Daphne, you are awful. But I like you.

That’s Oscar Giannino, leading economist and journalist. The shoes can be ordered from a little shop in Brera.

What do you think of the headline : “Judge suspects jail of drugs collusion”
Jail ?
Excellent, Daphne, excellent.
[Daphne – As I said, I stole the image off Paul Gatt.]

Waistcoat with top button undone but lower button fastened? Good thing this chap isn’t a billionaire, or it’ll infect everyone like Gianni Agnelli’s blasphemous watch-over-the-cuff.
LOFL!!!!
Is the general election June of next year ?
[Daphne – Expressions like LOFL and multiple exclamation marks are not permitted on this website unless it is absolutely clear they are used ironically.]
Sorry :(
[Daphne – :) and :( are banned, too.]
Borat is taller and thinner.
I was about to comment on Abela’s dress sense and immediately I remembered the uniform worn by the Garibaldini during the Risorgimento. They wore red shirts so that the blood did not show when they are wounded and brown trousers when they are in full flight escaping away from the fighting.
Actually the camicie rosse were the cheapest shirts Garibaldi could afford. It was red, and usually it was used by butchers to cover up splashes. The reason you mentioned was a ‘happy’ coincidence.
The Mille expedition is over-romanced and hyped – like all things Italian. To be frank, it was a terribly ramshackle affair.
I know as this year I have read an excellent book on Italy and the Risorgimento – The Pursuit of Italy by David Gilmour which as it describes on the dust cover is A History of a Land, its Regions and their People. However, I prefer my version.
Borat is the happy chappie. Toni Abela must be the grim figure on the right, shoulder just slightly listing from that chip he’s been carrying for so long.
Borat’s grandpa more like it.
Letter in today’s Times of Malta:
