I am a social psychologist and not a clinical psychologist, so I consider myself a layman in these matters, but I wonder whether the proper diagnosis for Franco Debono might be manic-depression (bipolar), with his current exhibition of a manic phase.

The psychiatrists would have to have an extensive interview with him to get to the bottom of his apparent disorder.

Unfortunately, the theory of democracy presumes that all of the participants are rational and act towards the common good, as determined by the majority.

It doesn’t seem to provide for the exceptional (and not necessary infrequent probability) that a key player in the system may go haywire someplace.

But in Franco Debono we have the example of such a case that may bring about a crisis (in government) because the player is out to lunch.

Gaddafi was out to lunch too, yet he maintained control over his country and caused terror for that extent of time. Other countries, and possibly our own, Malta, were sometimes held captive by the caprice of their leaders, supported either by democracy or by tyranny.

Unfortunately, in Malta, now, democracy is being held hostage by the tyrannyy of one person who needs personal help, and who has no place in the public sphere.

It will be a shame if the nation is made to suffer because of the actual suffering and anguish of one Franco Debono. The country might be spared this if he resigns. But, hey, the limelight and self-importance FD feels is fed by the public reaction to his personal crisis.

It seems there will be no alternative to the social destruction one man is set to inflict.

The self-belief of a narcissist is ordinarily impervious to low moods, whereas in bipolarity low moods are associated with self-doubt.

    Why are they all bearded?

[Daphne – It’s the same man. Charles Manson. Heard of him?]

My goodness, this video is indeed creepy.

    “Me, me, me”

    “Top student, top marks”

    “I’m a very high achiever”

    “I’m not your parrot, I’m nobody’s parrot”

    It all sounds so familiar.
