Even Jeffrey has had it up to here with Franco

Published: January 9, 2012 at 8:22pm

Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando, on Facebook, in response to somebody who asked him why he votes with the government:

My constituents elected me on the Nationalist Party ticket. I will remain faithful to the trust they showed in me and the support they, my constituents, gave me till the last day of this legislature.

And again:

FEET ON THE GROUND FOR PITY’S SAKE! Lawrence Gonzi was not only democratically elected as the leader of the Nationalist Party he was also democratically elected as the Prime Minister. It does not make sense to have a leadership issue now. If the Prime Minister feels he no longer has the support of the majority of the house there is only one sensible, democratic—- and honourable —- thing to do – call an election.

Oh wow….JPO is our darling again. He has become so important that he is being quoted! Keep this going, please!

Jabba the Hutt is on one with his Inkontri. Why the heck doesn’t he buy himself a full set of teeth?

When a member of my family wants to watch something on One (very rarely), I can put some headphones on and stay in the same room. When Jabba is on headphones are not enough.

  3. Aha, so one is a little less sick than the other.

  4. Joe Micallef says:

So Debono is the guest of the refugio pecatorum host Grima. On the other side of the panel there is Smuggler Karmenu Vella who thinks that the problem is Gonzi and not Debono.

However beyond this expected asinine view, I was very surprised by a remark which will possibly escape the attention of most. Whilst listing the “serious” faults of Gonzi he said “some don’t agree with the honorarium….”. I understand he may soon have an interest in this regard.

Good to know JPO is back to his senses. Franco is on nkontri tonight – pathetic.

Billi tghajjar lill Daphne, ma se tiggwadanja xejn u turi kemm il-PL m’hux ippreparat ghal elezzjoni issa ghax jekk xejn, Debono irnexxielu inigges Nazzjonalisti li ghal xi raguni ma vvutawx fl-ahhar elezzjoni.

Jekk il-Prim jghajjat elezzjoni issa, il-PN ikollu vantagg u biex jisfida lill Debono, johrog bi hgaru w jirbah elezzjoni ohra MINGHAJR il-vavu Franco.

  7. Anton says:

Franco ….all the time shifting ground and lying and inventing.

I was at St Aloysius College too, and those were not the standards of behaviour. We were taught to grow up and lead.

On a separate note, curious that Joseph Muscat hasn’t woken up from his slumber sleep and realized that such things can happen to his government, and ultimately this country cannot be held at ransom by foolish ignorant and greedy MPs.

We seriously need to change the Constitution to guarantee at least 2 seats to the ruling government and hence eliminate such instances.

    • jae says:

Good suggestion. Now is the time to make the required Constitutional changes.

Joe Muscat has an interest in making this change because if he were to be Prime Minister, with just a one seat majority, he would not last more that a year or two except by giving in to all sorts of blackmail from the Labour MPs.

PS. I must say that Franco Debono’s self-centered egoistic way of doing things is the exact opposite to what I was taught when I was at St. Aloysius. His propensity to blackmail is, in my view, unforgivable.

  8. Anthony Farrugia says:

Whilst JPO is rightly so defending the fact he was elected on the PN ticket at the same time he is saying what the vast majority of the country (including most nationalist voters like myself) have been saying for the past days – Call an early election!

This is Malta not Syria. We no longer have a majority in parliament so let’s not prolong this farce any longer and lose more votes on the way whilst making fools of ourselves. Leave the Franco Debono’s for the ‘brutte figure’ and leave the party out of it please. We live in a democracy for christ sake!

  9. ganna says:

I have just finished watching inkontri.

Franco mentioned the word democracy a hundred times. I’d like to tell Franco to go to the archives and read up about democracy in Malta in the days when he was preoccupied with getting 100 in religion.

Now he is cutting off his nose to spite his face, handing power to Joseph Muscat while he disappears into oblivion.

Labour are making a festa bik and not because they like you.

Franco please, for heaven’s sake resign and move on, because it is not only your political life which is finished but also your law career which is being seriously damaged.

Think again don’t make a fool of yourself, and remember your constitents who voted for you. You are betraying them and they will never forgive you. What are you gaining fom all this?

This is just your revenge because you didn’t get what you want.

  10. Artful Dodger says:

Daphne, your ‘older’ posts are disappearing too fast off the front page with all the goings on. Should be a minute’s job for your techie to increase the number that show up at least temporarily so we mortals can keep up. Thanks!

  11. ciccio says:

Jeffrey should give his Earl Grey tea recipe to Franco. And perhaps Franco’s mum should buy him a cat.

    Both worked wonders with Jeffrey.

    • Catsrbest says:

Indeed, cats work wonders – believe me – they do. They are serene, calm and deep thinkers – just like GonziPN.

      • Angus Black says:

Gonzi is looking more like a Cheshire cat finishing off a little mouse and licking his lips.

Debono, you are history and the sooner you digest it, the sooner you start to get better – outside of your political ambitions, of course.

  12. Dee says:

The Hon. Franco Debono forms his own political party.

  13. FAVETTU says:

Truly so… but Jeffrey would never, ever impress after the MISTRA catastrophe. His constituents (as much as all Maltese for that matter) will never forget.

  14. Martin says:

You are becoming hysterical. It’s not a pretty sight.

[Daphne – I couldn’t be calmer. My humour tends towards the deadpan, Martin – an alien concept to the denizens of Malta Today’s comments board. Franco Debono, his report card and his posturing are a gift to people in my line of work, though poison to those who actually have to deal with him and his messes.]

  15. Lino cert says:

This may sound like a crazy conspiracy theory, but could this Franco saga be a ploy by PN to win support before an early call for election? Certainly seems to be working. Franco may be the unwitting sacrificial lamb.

    • No Problem says:

And considering that last year the electoral commission re-arranged the electoral districts. I think that you are right.

  17. P.C. says:

I wonder how Dr Muscat does not see that this is a golden chance for him to gain some credibility – if he sides with Dr Gonzi against Dr Debono (his class mate, and who got better marks than him in Form II C from what I learnt) some people may realise that after all Dr Muscat has brains and knows how to use them.

Occasionally. But then again, this is Labour in Oppostion – meaning they oppose all that the Government says, even if it makes utter fools of them.

    • No Problem says:

PC Dr Gonzi does not need Joseph to fight his battles.

    • Papandreou and the benefit of hindsight says:

“I wonder how Dr Muscat does not see that this is a golden chance for him to gain some credibility“.

Well, I`m not so sure about the credibility bit, but with the benefit of hindsight, Joseph Muscat must probably be factoring in the huge mistake that Papandreou had committed when he had called upon Konstantinos Karamanlis and the New Democracy Party to hold mid-term elections.

Once Papandreou got into government, he couldn`t get out fast enough when the going got tough economically.

2012 isn`t going to be too easy a year to say the least and Joseph Muscat and the PL`s top brass know it.

  18. C. Nicall says:

Incredible. Last year JPO was the spawn of the devil, now he’s top of your party invite list. Gonzi could be raping kittens and you’d still attempt to put a positive spin on it. We know you’re a puppet of PN, I just wonder who’s hand is up there.

[Daphne – I never fail to be astonished at the way so many people can’t read. They see the words and they don’t get the meaning. Where exactly in this post have I made a value judgement – still less a revised value judgement – about Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando. I merely said that even he has had it up to here with Franco Debono. ‘We know you’re a puppet of PN’ – tghidli xejn. Turi kemm taf taqra u tifhem. You’re certainly not a regular reader, or for that matter anybody who actually knows me and my particular sort of personality. Here’s the way the Labour Party thinks: if somebody who is clearly not thick supports the Nationalist Party and mocks Labour, then it’s not because the PN is worthy of support and Labour deserving of mockery, but because SHE IS PAID TO DO IT BY SOME HIDDEN HAND. Grow up, for pity’s sake, and work out why I think your party is dangerously ridiculous.]

    • C. Nicall says:

“Whose”, even. Must read before clicking submit.

Good advice for you too. ;)

      • Angus Black says:

@ C Nicall & Franco Debono (especially Franco)

Since Franco got 100% in religion, I presume that he is familiar with the Crucifixion scene.

Christ on the cross was flanked by two criminals, both condemned to death.

On one side the criminal knowing his death was nigh, turned to Jesus and begged forgiveness and was promised a place in heaven by Jesus.

The other criminal stubborn to the end mocked his peer, gained no sympathy from Jesus and presumably met his fate in the ever after.

It proves that it is never too late to come to one’s senses, sincerely repent and move on.

JPO may have realized and seized the opportunity in a timely fashion.

Franco Debono, on the other hand, has dug in, remains obstinate and will meet his doom because of his perseverance of error.

    • mandango says:

Just what makes you think that C Nicall is a Labour Party supporter? I happen to know C Nicall personally, who justifiably has a very CYNICAL view of you, and I can assure you that you couldn’t be more mistaken about his political leanings.

So much for your intuitive mind.

      [Daphne – I know it’s rude to yawn in people’s faces, but….]

  19. Wayne Hewitt says:

While Mintoff was a divisive figure in the MLP in the 1998 (Mintoffjani vs Sant), Franco Debono can be a uniting figure for the PN in 2011. I say, let’s bite the bullet, call an election and unite all Nationalists against Franco Debono and his Labourite supporters.

Franco Debono will win us an early election.
