Underdog

Published: January 13, 2012 at 8:26pm

Joseph Muscat has just said to Joe Azzopardi on Xarabank that the Labour Party is the underdog and will be seriously disadvantaged at the next election.

Bloody liar.

All the polls show that Labour is the top dog, and by a long stretch.

Labour is also anything but disadvantaged as the face of change, even if that change comes in the shape of Joseph Muscat, Anglu Farrugia and Karmenu Vella.

All you have to do is remember that people were prepared to ‘change’ to Alfred Sant less than four years ago.

Some people would vote LP simply for the want of a change irrespective if the change is for the better or not. Bla sugu.

  2. anthony says:

Muscat’s underdog lament tonight on Xarabank is proof, if ever any were needed, that he is a consummate liar.

    • Dee says:

I would not call him a liar. He is a schemer, though, manipulator and opportunist.

Lil Franco Debono qed idawwru zugraga u jisserva bih, u dak il figlio di una buona donna, ghadu ma ittendiex.

This is the change that the people want.

“The man entrusted to draw up the Labour Party’s electoral manifesto, Karmenu Vella, said this evening the PL is ready to govern and armed with a strong, compact programme of work, it will show the people how it can do things differently.”

    How exactly, Karm?

You’re ready to govern, but you are not ready to tell us how you will do things differently.

Oh, there is this bit which is interesting news:

“The conference was also addressed by Labour leader Joseph Muscat who announced that former general secretary Jason Micallef had accepted his plea to remain heading its television and radio rather than contest the general election as he had wanted. Dr Muscat said Mr Micallef had “gladly accepted”.

Mr Micallef stressed he always believed in Dr Muscat and delegates applauded loudly as the two hugged on stage.”

      • Life of Brian says:

Har, har. Let’s see who was going to run against Jason. Labour has its own Franco Debono, methinks.

    • Grezz says:

Maybe they’re going to continue where Alfred Sant left off. Does anyone remember these infamous words of his: “Inbazwru ftit l’hawn, u nbazwru ftit l’hemm…”

      • Grezz says:

“F’tarf il-gimgha l-ohra kellna ammissjoni serja u daqstant iehor importanti tal-Kap ta’ l-Oppozizzjoni. Fi programm televiziv fuq l-istazzjon nazzjonali, programm li jarawh, tista’ tghid, il-Maltin u l-Ghawdxin kollha, Alfred Sant, fi ftit kelmiet indika lill-poplu x’inhu t-twemmin baziku tieghu u kif ikun behsiebu jimxi jekk xi darba jkun fil-Gvern. “Inbazwru naqra ’l hawn… u nbazwru naqra ’l hemm…”” ( http://www.doi.gov.mt/en/commentaries/2005/11/mum13.asp )

      • Grezz says:

The above quotation, unfortunately, does not show the cynical, tad-daqqiet ta’ harta smile on Alfred Sant’s face when he uttered the words in question.

      • xmun says:

That’s exactly why countries like Greece are in such a mess and that’s also where we would have been had Alfred Sant won the 2008 election. Who knows, we are still in the running wih Joe Muscat as the youngest ever Prime Minister.

    • ciccio says:

The logo on the wall behind Karmenu Vella says “Pajjiz li jixraq lil uliedna.” Well, they meant the grandchildren in the case of Karmenu Vella.

      • Grezz says:

Ghandhom il-wicc juzaw dak is-“slogan” wara li farrku pajjizna u wara li ghamlu l-pajjiz infern meta konna tfal fis-sebghajnijiet.

  4. Claude Sciberras says:

I’m suspecting that the comment on the underdog is related to his predecessor’s excuse for losing the last election – power of incumbency – might need to use it later.

  5. Antoine Vella says:

The idea of the PL as underdog was perhaps suggested by Edward Scicluna who has already used it himself in some television programme.

  6. BC says:

Of Course PL are the underdogs when one considers that it is opposing a govt which has been at the helm for 14 years or so. Which polls are stating so? the same polls that in 2008 were giving Labour, not a landslide victory, but for sure a win?
I guess eeryone knows what happened in 2008, irrelevant of the way the election was won.

  7. H.P. Baxxter says:

    Labour’s core vote is 47%.
    PN’s is 38%

    Underdog indeed.

    • BC says:

A 9% Victory….amazing ejjjj, pity in 2008 the polls were saying Labour will win and for the first time I’ll treat them as nonsense and flush them in the loo….I guess Baxxter, you should do as well. Typical PN propaganda

  8. Jozef says:

He’s not one to refrain from cheating his way up. What he’ll think of the rest of us when in power is anyone’s guess.

  9. Manda says:

Joseph Muscat’s replies during his Xarabank interview yesterday clearly showed that he had been coached and had ready-prepared answers, as distinction from prepared facts and information.

He had to use those answers no matter what the question was. This shows that this guy is still just a school boy and certainly not practical to face real situations.

He is just a media person and POWER HUNGRY! And surely very poor where statistics are to be interpreted: +8% = approx. +22,000 votes in an election. Do you call this “underdog”?

“He had to use those answers no matter what the question was. This shows that this guy is still just a school boy and certainly not practical to face real situations. ”

Do you think he might still be stuck in his Form 2c, like Franco?
