Mintoff and the Constitutional Court

Here’s another fact about that loser.

Mintoff suspended the Constitutional Court when he was prime minister in the early 1970s, during discussions with the Opposition to amend the Constitution.

President Toni Buttigieg boasted quite candidly in writing that Mintoff did this to pressurise the Opposition into acceding to his demands – by ensuring that anyone who wanted to challenge the Mintoff amendments would have no court to which to recur.

Oh, he wanted to amend the Constitution? I must keep up. The last one I heard was when he said “Jien nitnejjek mil-Kostituzzjoni.”

Officially ignoring or holding the Constitution in contempt is the severest way of ‘amending’ it.

Toni Buttigieg was no great joy, neither.

See, like two schoolmates I know, Dumink too was always right.

If I am not mistaken , Dr. Joseph Brincat, President Buttigieg’s own son-in-law, was justice minister at the time.

Dr. Brincat hosts a variety of late-night shows on Joseph Muscat’s One radio.

He was the only one to show up at Raymond Caruana’s funeral.

If I’m not mistaken, Franco spent some time in his practice.
