He died after being kicked repeatedly in the genitals: and they claim they aimed for his thigh (so that’s all right, then)
timesofmalta.com reports:
Cuschieri himself admitted to the police that he had kicked the migrant to restrain him. He said he aimed at his thigh but did not know where he hit him. An autopsy report showed how Kamara died from blows in his genital area.
The soldiers put Kamara in the back of the van but they did not have handcuffs. By the time they arrived back at the detention camp. Kamara was unconscious. At Safi they asked for handcuffs.
Two Detention Service officers, Frans Scerri and Marco Cuschieri said when giving evidence that they saw Kamara lying on his side in the van and not moving. They handed the handcuffs to Pickard. Pickard handcuffed his hands and Dimech his feet.
Pickard then ordered the Detention Service officers into the van with the migrant. The soldiers briefly disappeared in an office before returning. They got in at the front of the van and drove to Paola Health centre, where Kamara was certified dead.
Scerri said it was Pickard who came up with the idea that they should agree on a story that the migrant resisted to the end. However, Cuschieri said it was Sgt Dimech who came up with the plan.

There is another Facebook group called “JUSTICE FOR SERGEANT MARK DIMECH & COLLEAGUES” – calling Mark a hero. And it has 9000 members. What is wrong with these people?
Simple. They are racist.
Nothing, they’ve just been told it’s not that shameful to be a member of an obscene Facebook page.
We have a situation to deal with now.
johnusa, most of them don’t even know that they have been added. Members are added automatically by their friends.
I realised I was added but left the group immediately. What is so sad about that group amongst other things (and there are many) is that they boast about the number of members they have, when most of them don’t even know they have been added.
I had a quick glance at the group’s wall and all they can say is that they can’t believe that their friends have been arrested.
The victim is never mentioned. And today they are jubilant because the accused have been let out on bail.
Two of the accused are out on bail. One is still in custody. Celebrations are premature, but tasteless at any stage.
In this new group there are several PN politicians but only two PL ones (Decelis and Joe Sammut).
Could be someone wants to “balance” the other racist group which contained many Labour MPs.
Please keep in mind: ■
Only your friends can add you to groups.

You can leave a group anytime. To do so, just go to the group page and click “Leave Group” in the right-hand column. Once you leave a group, you can’t be added by anyone else unless you explicitly request to be re-added.
Unbelievable comments on the Justice for Sergeant Mark group on Facebook. A HUMAN BEING was beaten to death, and these freaks are organising a fenkata to raise money for the two persons that allegedly killed him.
Dorian Flores
we should do another fenkata as a fund raising event.

This report is interesting, but more fascinatingly depressing are the comments beneath:

If AFM and the detention officers in direct contact with the irregular immigrants were armed with tazers all of this would not have happened.Lets hope this serves as a lesson!!

Yes, tazers is all they need. That’s the ‘lesson’ that should be learned. Unbelievable.
I will limit myself to this.
If the cause of death was, medically, because of “being kicked repeatedly in the genitals”, then there is only one word in English that adequately describes this crime.
And that is ‘heinous’.
I will leave the rest to our mostly competent and upright judiciary.
What fenkata?
Il-fenkata biex jigbru il-flus biex jappoggjaw lil dawn iz-zewg suldati li hargu bil-bail. Can you believe it? Norganizzaw il-fenkati ghal min joqtol. U le.
Here’s one of my posts the racist (sorry, there’s no other explanation) moderator at the Times Online won’t publish. It is in response to Robert Borg ( http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20120710/blogs/maltese-migrants-a-study-in-integration.428015 ).
Dear Mr Borg,
You have raised a lot of points that I will try to address as briefly as possible.
You ask whether immigrants are willing to assimilate into our culture or whether they obey our laws or contribute anything positive.
Regarding assimilation, I would think that some do, but in any case, they don’t have to. When you say “our culture”, do you mean – at one end – the paternalistic, sexist, male-dominated, insular, Catholic (in outward appearance and not necessarily in behaviour) culture, or do you mean – at the other end – the egalitarian, secular, humanist, liberal and atheist culture? (there are of course shades in between). I ask because I form part of the latter, we’re growing in number, we’re Maltese, and we’re not leaving anytime soon.
So when you wish for immigrants to assimilate in our culture, do you mean that you wish them to become liberal humanist atheists? I suspect that you don’t. So how about giving people the freedom to make their own choices as long as they are in line with the law? Which brings me to your second question.
You ask whether immigrants obey our laws. Do Maltese citizens obey our laws? I would think that the majority do. The same goes for immigrants. For those that don’t, there is the law and law enforcement.
You ask whether immigrants contribute anything positive. Some do, and more would be willing, given the opportunity. Of course, to answer your question in more detail, I would need to know what you mean by “positive”. What’s positive to you might not be positive to me. In any case, over here I believe we have a serious problem of Maltese citizens abusing social benefits (not only do they not contribute anything positive, they actually constitute a problem for the rest of us), and I have yet to hear calls for their forced exile.
Regarding the case of the recent killing of an immigrant (he was killed – that much is obvious – all that has to be determined in court is by who), I won’t go into much details since I’d rather wait for the court case and the inquiry to be concluded. I will only remind you that the immigrant was handcuffed inside a van, and the autopsy revealed that he sustained several kicks to the groin area and the lower back. I’ll leave it up to you to decide whether – if the injuries were produced by the detention officers or the army – only necessary force was used.
Finally, please don’t form your opinion about immigrants from comments in the online newspapers. Usually, the most noisy and vociferous are the least informed and/or most prejudiced.
After posting it about three times, it is now online. Persistence sometimes works.
