From a 12-point ‘electoral manifesto’ to a one-sentence press release

Published: September 30, 2012 at 9:47pm

It gets shallower and shallower over at Labour HQ. Soon they won’t even need to wear arm-bands any more, and even Kurt Farrugia (who wrote this thing) will be able to reach the bottom.

Il-kredibbilta’ ta’ GonziPN qed tinħall

Bl-insistenza tiegħu fuq gideb, GonziPN qed juri li għadu ffriżat fil-politika tal-passat filwaqt li l-kredibilta’ tiegħu qed tinħall.

    The oracle has spoken.

  2. Tania says:

    Fil-passat tal-Labour mela, ghax fil-passat tan-Nazzjonalisti m’hemmx gideb daqs kemm hemm fil-passat tal-Labour zgur.

  3. Antoine Vella says:

It looks more like one of the usual ‘Lejber’ comments on Facebook than a press release.

And they still managed to make a grammar mistake: gideb should have an article, like insistenza.

    • Natalie says:

True, it does look like a Facebook comment. That’s great communication coming out of l-Ufficcju tal-Kommunikazzjoni.

    • Min Jaf says:

Gideb carried no article as, had that been included, it would have extended the text to form a second line, so rendering it too complex for the average Labour voter to decipher.

    • maltawarrior says:

And it’s either ”kredibilità” or “kredibbiltà”.

  4. Min Jaf says:

…and even Kurt Farrugia (who wrote this thing) will be able to reach the bottom.

Whose bottom? Kurt would still need to hop onto a stool.

  5. Abulafia says:

I can’t believe I’m defending the PL, but when exactly did Joey claim he would freeze wages? He merely stated that he wouldn’t increase the minimum wage immediately (which is a perfectly sensible conservative approach to welfare).

The PL is right, Gonzi is lying on this. At best the PN could claim that Joey doesn’t understand the relationship between COLA and minimum wage, but beyond that nothing he said indicates that he wants to introduce a wage freeze.

It seems that the PN isn’t immune to treating the electorate like idiots either. Things like these make me want to give up on Malta completely and become a hermit.

Kurt, li kieku kellek ftit melh, kliem li ghandu x’jaqsam ma’ friza u iffrizar nevita li nuzahom bhalissa.

  9. Il-Hajbu says:

    Imma dan f’sensieh jew?

Tghid rah l-artiklu ta’ ex-ministru Laburista Lino Spiteri fejn ma jistax jifhem kif Muscat hareg b’dik il-proposta?

L-ghageb ta’ l-ghogbijiet pero’ filwaqt li ma jistax jifhem ghala hareg b’dik il-proposta, izjed l-isfel fl-artiklu tieghu jghid li Dr. Lawrence Gonzi interpretah hazin.

Jekk Alfred Sant skond Mintoff kien tilef il-boxxla socjali, nahseb li Lino Spiteri tilef “ir-ragunar socjali! b’dak li harbex illum.

  10. Jozef says:

Joseph solemnly declared this morning he’ll be the one to vouch for ex-nationalists who intend to vote for his movement. He promised this to remove any doubt any doubt they might have to being believed they actually did. Vote for his movement ie.

What exactly is he saying? That once elected, political colour, favours and Labour insiders controlling everything will be the order of the day?

I’ve yet to come across someone who manages to dress up something as base and vulgar as this as some noble act.

  11. Jozef says:

Joseph also tried his hand at some economics this morning.

Joseph blamed the PM for half the country’s debt since independence, ignoring the minor detail of Malta’s growth in real terms since 2004. (listing all prime ministers, first time I ever heard him mention Alfred Sant by name)

Barely five minutes later he accused Simon Busuttil of scaremongering rebutting that a bailout wouldn’t be plausible given that the country’s debt is in the hands of the Maltese themselves.

How’s that for a triple somersault? Muscatova for the next Olympics.

  12. Qeghdin Sew says:

How much does he get paid for that? Heck, I might even apply for the job. Doesn’t seem too hard.

  13. Bubu says:

I think that Muscat knows that every time he or his minions open their mouth they put a foot in it, so they’re trying to keep the foot tasting to a minimum.

  14. Martin says:

What more was there to say?

  15. David S says:

Yesterday I watched the TVM programme commemorating its 50 years of broadcasting.

They interviewed non-Socialist broadcasters/TV producers who were sacked from Xandir Malta by Wistin Abela – depriving them of their livelihood, as there were no other TV / radio stations to work for.

MauriceTanti Burlo (The Sunday Times/The Times cartoonist Nalizpelra) was among them. He was transferred to work in the TeleMalta garage.

Another milestone was the commencement of transmission in colour. The only “hiccup ” was one had to pay backhanders to the Socialist inner core to get a colour TV – or a MINISTERIAL recommendation to jump the wait list to buy one.

I trust Dr Fenech Adami watched this documentary to help him jog his memory as to the great things Dom Mintoff did.

Was it not Dr Fenech Adami who coined the term ‘korruzjoni istituzjonalizata’?

The redeeming factor was Joe Grima acknowledging the fact that TVM has become the best TV station, ever since Anton Attard took over. Now we wait and see how Joseph Muscat will get rid of him.

  16. MoBi says:

Patience. The Labour elves are copy+pasting their manifesto together as quickly as they can plagiarise one.
