Dear God, now Dalli has gone to Brussels to hold a press conference

Shouldn’t all these men be on Prozac or something? Jeffrey, Franco and Dalli – all of a piece.

    Mamma mia, x’misthija.

Qeghdin indahhqu l-Ewropa kollha bina minhabba muqrana ta’ din il-kwalita.

  2. Joseph Vassallo says:

Yes and he has announced that he is going to take legal action against the Commission for unfair dismissal! Incredible!

    • Angus Black says:

Now, just one sec. Dalli should be careful what to say.

‘Dismissal’ means ‘firing’, Resigning is a different animal. When one is given the option of ‘resigning’, such action may qualify the person for benefits which are not included when one is fired.

So Dalli should make up his mind and only accuse Barroso with ‘unfair dismissal’, if he can prove so, notwithstanding OLAF’s findings.

The best thing for him to do is shut up and collect whatever he is entitled to after resigning and enjoy his unconditional release from the prison in Brussels.

He can fight his legal battles in private and with dignity and if found innocent, then he can hold press conferences to his heart’s content. Vindication would be that much sweeter.

We still don’t know who his lawyers are, but he is either not taking their advice or they are incompetent.

      • Joseph Vassallo says:

Barroso did his utmost to safeguard Dalli’s salary, or a good part of it, together with his pension. However, he chose to be ungrateful and challenge the commission.

      • AJS says:

What if, the utterance “circumstantial evidence” is THE cover-up? What if the report contains damning evidence instead?

I think that President Barroso expected Johnny Boy to act normally. That is, to bow his head and exit gracefully in gentlemanly fashion.

I suspect that President Barroso said something on the lines of “John, we caught you. Be a better man and take your punishment. Leave QUIETLY. We won’t make an issue of it and it will quickly go away”.

Now Johnny is stamping his feet – if he were truly innocent he would have refused to resign and made a press statement revealing everything on the day of unfair dismissal.

The way Johnny is acting is measured (stupidly contrived, but contrived nonetheless).

Now, President Barroso might go Dirty Harry on Johnny Cash and reveal the report content with damning evidence.

Ah, that would go ahead and really make my day.

      • If John Dalli does not believe that he is innocent in this matter, would he dare sue Barroso or whoever is directly involved in the conclusions of the report ?

      • Francis Saliba says:

Is it not a refined form of bribery when Dalli is induced to resign his post immediately, within half an hour, or else he would be deprived of any retirement allowances do to him? To me that is only a variation of a Mafia “offer that Dalli couldn’t refuse” – or else.

  3. RJC says:

He would have done so much better to zip up, take his pension and find a quiet place where no one knows him to retire and enjoy himself.

  4. edgar says:

According to Matthew Vella of Malta Today reporting on this press conference, Dalli ‘failed to impress’. Do I sense that Malta Today are backing off the support for Dalli?

[Daphne – They had better, unless they wish him to take them (even further) down with him.]

    • Tinnat says:

Judging by the reports in Maltatoday in the last few days, they do seem to have fallen out of love with him.

    • maryanne says:

I thought so the minute they put up in detail what the Wall Street Journal said.

    • Mister says:

Maltatoday does not want to be sued by President Barroso, that’s for sure.

You can imagine that they would need a HUGE Libel fund to finance the compensation for bad-mouthing President Barroso.

Saviour Balzan would need to write many books to pay off the lawyers and compensation fees.

      • Jozef says:

Vol.1 Saying it as it is
        Vol.2 I didn’t actually say that
Vol.3 Hang on a minute what did I just say?
        Vol.4 Where’s everybody, oh shit, no wait…..

    • ciccio says:

Miskin Matthew Vella. Tefghuh fuq quddiem biex jiddefendi lil Dalli.

  5. Catsrbest says:

Yes, they all should be on Prozac. All this is the result of too much hatred and lack of sleep. But he who laughs last laughs best.

  6. Stanley J A Clews says:

He should have held a press conference in Malta instead of choosing PL ONE. We are the ones who want to know the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth with Zammit alongside him.

    • Angus Black says:

      Not a chance, Stanley.

Dalli has been Gonzi’s nemesis since 2004, blamed him for all his missteps and waged an anti NP campaign ever since he was not elected leader.

Since 2004, his natural home has been the Labour Party whose craftiness he fell for.

They took him under their wings and when he is no longer useful, they will know him no more. Debono and JPO are following suit although in JPO’s case his chances of reaping fringe benefits from a Labour administration rate a notch or two higher than Debono’s.

Now Joe Grima has put his two cents worth in favour of Dalli, of course. Is he still acting on behalf of the Labour Party? Is Joseph using him as an anti-EU tool while keeping himself at a safe distance?

Grima sure has a distinct style and vocabulary to match which would make one cringe and wring his arms in desperation.

Hasra ma kienx membru tal-GWU. Kien jaqbez ghalih Tony ‘Issa Daqshekk’ Zarb. Tghid ghax Johnny ma kienx jiflah ihallas il-mizata tal-unjin?

  8. canon says:

I hope John Dalli is not making the trips to Brussels at the expense of Air Malta or the Maltese Government.

  9. Qeghdin Sew says:

Is it just me, or does his posture really look like Franco Debono’s in this photo?

  10. Ken il malti says:

Prozac and its ilk are most probably THE problem.

And this is from years of observation of people close to me who have been on this medication for years for mild depression and it has caused them tons of grief with out-of-character outlandish behaviour.

I say they been on Prozac for a long long time and that is why they have been suffering a continuous lapse of judgment and it nicely explains their perpetual outlandish behaviour.

The drug amplifies normally subtle mania in some people and emboldens them with shameless outbursts and out of character actions as it seems to remove the self-governor of sound judgement from the mind and emboldens them to act out while under its influence.

  11. Ed says:

Joseph Muscat, could you return John Dalli’s phone call, tell him to come home, and ground him please?

  12. David S says:

mmm not too fast, Edgar. It seems Saviour Balzan moved in and changed the title.

  13. Mister says:

    Wait a moment… hold your horses…

John Dalli wants a full public display of his underpants and dealings with Zammit together with these ‘lawyer lobbyists’. He also wants to take on President Barroso.

    PLEASE LET HIM DO SO!

Give him a spade and let him dig his own hole. It seems that President Barroso is actually more worried for John Dalli, than John Dalli himself !

John Dalli’s arrogance has gone over the top now.

    Innocenti ? U mela ! Ara tohrog bil-velu abjad Sur Dalli !

    • Miskin Barroso qalbu tajba tafux ! Tant hu twajjeb li tah 30 minuta biex jirrizenja li ma jmurx ikollu cans jiehu parir legali suriet in-nies, u meta lanqas biss urih ir-rapport !

      • Grosvenor says:

Is it me or my impression that you, a Laburist, spend more time on this blog than the Nationalists do? Something must be very wrong.

  14. JPS says:

    UnDALLIvable!

  15. Grosvenor says:

It’s like reliving Dallas with Dalli’s stupid antics.

  16. Angus Black says:

    Never a DALL moment!
