Franco: the Grinch who stole Christmas
That Franco Debono, the lawyer from Hal Ghaxaq and dangerously bad MP, knows nothing about how business works is a given. But does he have to prove it so spectacularly?
He argues right now on his blog that the prime minister should call an election right now, campaign through October and November, and then we’ll all be home for Christmas, so to speak.
Already there are rumbles of furious anger from retailers, for whom sales made in the run-up to Christmas are absolutely crucial to balancing their books at the end of the financial year.
What does Franco envisage, exactly – an electoral campaign fought fiercely and angrily to the sound of Jingle Bells in Republic Street, while people clutch their purses close to their chests just in case Labour gets in?
He’s truly berserk. I’ve had a few mad-as-hell shopkeepers on the telephone already. If Franco carries on in this vein, it won’t be safe for him to walk down Valletta’s main drag on his way to tuna toast at Cafe Cordina.

Franco really wants to emulate Mintoff. Reminds me of the famously democratic 12 December 1981 election.
Franco has stopped reasoning totally. He’s gone into suicide-bomber mode now.
Perhaps he is aiming at a state funeral as well.
The one we had last August must have given him some ideas about gun carriages and all that.
