Just trust The People

Atticus, in The Sunday Times (London) last Sunday:

Here’s some advice for any MPs struggling to explain the detail of their policy on deficit reduction and growth: don’t bother.

Out canvassing recently, Labour’s Chris Bryant says he met a “charming lady of about 35” and asked how she might vote. “That Tony Blair seems to be doing awfully well,” she replied. “What party is he?”

He later met a teacher who said he wouldn’t be voting Labour because of Michael Gove. Bryant pointed out that the education secretary was a Tory.

“Yes,” said the teacher, “but in a Labour government.”

Just trust the people.
