Buy this and put it next to your copy of Fifty Shades of Grey. Then you’ll have TWO books on your shelves.
I’ve been reading up about Joseph Muscat’s new biography JOSEPH – Malta li rrid ngħix fiha on Maltastar.
Maltastar, the Labour Party’s official news site in English, translates the title as:
MALTA I WANT TO LIVE IN
Apparently, it’s a new publication “that will be launched in coming days”. Like its subject matter, the book is going to be late and leave us waiting.
But on to Maltastar, for the beef.
This book is a personal encounter with Labour Leader Dr Joseph Muscat and provides profuse information about his background, his intellectual, academic and political formation, and what he proposes for our country if entrusted with government during the next five years.
Furthermore, it is a document of evidence which bears witness to the reasons why Joseph Muscat can be entrusted to lead a new government with competence, good judgment, and a much needed leap of quality.
The publication will contain the following sections:
• A biography of Joseph Muscat
• How Joseph became acquainted with the Labour Party
• The ideological principles with which Joseph works in politics
• How Joseph began his public service
• What Joseph did as a Member of the European Parliament
• How Joseph became leader of the Labour Party
• What Joseph proposes for the government of the country
The book Joseph – Malta li rrid ngħix fiha has Cyrus Engerer as its author and is illustrated by a large amount of pictures taken from personal and public collections to compliment the writing.
Before an electoral decision, it is to be expected that the Maltese people soundly weights the possibilities which are presented. Who, amongst the political parties and their leaders, should be entrusted with the country’s govenment for the next five years? Which one of them offers the best indications of a peaceful and successful future?
These questions may be answered satisfactorily by the examination of two major factors:
• Past records
• Future prospects
To facilitate the minute and appropriate examination of these two issues on the part of the Labour Party and its leader, Joseph Muscat, SKS, the Labour Party’s editorial house, will be releasing this publication, which will be available from Malta and Gozo’s leading bookshops. The volume is selling at €10.

Presumably it was written behind his back, stored on someone’s hard disk, and leaked. Har har.
Ah, so people DO have money to burn. Ten euros is a lot of money for a book that could be distributed for free.
Oh, and they breathless PR puffery writer should note that a quality leap is not necessarily upwards.
So it´s basically his CV in 200 pages? That´s what I call an inefficient use of space.
After the election, Cyrus will be presenting this 200 page tome as his thesis for a PhD at some papermill degree issuing institute.
What does “has Cyrus as its author” mean?
Is there a ghost writer?
You don’t imagine Joseph Muscat wrote it himself, do you?
La Redoute, last time Joey wrote a book he got sued.
Do you really think he’d run that risk again?
Of course I don’t think Muscat wrote it himself. But I don’t think Cyrus did either.
There must be somebody else behind it.
Does the book say how hard Joseph workedto deny Malta EU membership?
At least he didn’t call it ‘JOSEPH – It-Taqbida Tiegħi’
It’s cheap! Perhaps because people normally publish their biography when they have made it in life (as goodies or baddies) and not before?
Welcome back, Daph!
First of all, WELCOME BACK from your LONG Christmas holidays.
Who proof reads SKS’s English, I wonder.
“illustrated by a large amount of pictures…. to compliment the writing”
Is Maltastar implying that that the book is directed at “children,” and the pictures are their to encourage them to keep on trying to read it?
Oh, now young Joseph’s emulating the ‘greats’ by writing about his struggle.
Beware the Ides of March or thereabouts.
Is the paper used soft – but strong – enough, please?
How can Cyrus Engerer write a book which glorifies Joseph Muscat and his virtues?
Is it possible that in just a year and some months Cyrus has been so impressed so much by this Joseph Muscat that he decided to take the opportunity and impress him in turn with his dedication towards him?
What disgusting opportunism.
Joseph…..Joseph…..Joseph…..Joseph…..Joseph…..Joseph…..Joseph…..Joseph…..Joseph…..Joseph…..Cyrus……Joseph
“has Cyrus Engerer as its author and is illustrated by a large amount of pictures ” – Pictures and Cyrus Engerer! This should be interesting.
This should be interesting – if you are Manu Maltes.
Jew b’xejn jew xejn !
“it is to be expected that the Maltese people soundly weights the possibilities which are presented”
Il-lajks! I didn’t know everyone’s a body-builder nowadays.
• Past records – none
• Future prospects – very bleak
Have you noticed the horrifying English? If the book is of the same quality, it should become a textbook for Maltish to be introduced at Matsec level when Varist is minister maybe.
So I have to pay for something for me to know why I should give my vote to someone.
Can’t really fathom the logic.
L-ewwel l-logo copied minn Obama u issa l-ktieb?

‘it is to be expected that the Maltese people soundly weights the…’
Don’t they have a proof-reader?
Welcome back, Miss Daphne. What a dull Christmas it was without you on internet.
About this biography of a 38-year old (such a great age for a biography) being. I would entitle it: The Mein Kampf of Joseph Muscat.
As an armchair campaign strategist, I think this isn’t a bad move at all. Joseph Muscat is playing to his strengths, or rather, to Lawrence Gonzi’s weaknesses. Young and fresh vs old and tired. Urbane and intellectual vs God-fearing churchgoer and boring preacher.
It’s all designed, of course, to make him palatable to the “switchables” (sorry to have to go one better than our Daphne).
In the absence of a proper press, and of a proper intellectual class, it only takes a bit of rebranding to remove that instinctive gut reaction of fear of Labour.
I say Labour will win by 4% and I’m ready to bet a bottle of Veuve Clicquot.
Because I’m an unashamed champagne right winger, unlike Joseph and his cronies, who are all despicable champagne socialists.
Since when has a single book become a volume?
Volume: one out of a collection of many (Cambridge English Dictionary)
That said, is there a chance we will have other ‘illustrated with pictures’ book about other ‘formations’ in the near future? Perhaps inspired by Fifty Shades of Grey?
Din u l-bust ta’ Mintoff u ikolli s-set kollu. Tal-ustja.
‘Provides profuse information’
This is what happens when you employ crustaceans to do your writing.
A €10 biography? That really says it all.
‘… it is to be expected that the Maltese people soundly weights the possibilities…’ – typically Maltastar.
Back to the ‘reception class’, please.
‘Which one of them offers the best indications of a peaceful and successful future?’
They have got to be joking.
There must be many pictures because a biography of a 38 year old cannot be so thick, even if it were of a person with the most impressive curriculum.
So, at just 38, Mr Joseph published his bio. I always thought that a biography was worth writing after reaching quite a few achievements and not before. Could it be that the man himself is not convinced that he can deliver?
