Tonio Fenech is on TVM now – Broadcasting Authority press conference

Published: January 16, 2013 at 9:01pm

Off to watch, then.

———-

Well, he was bloody good – calm, composed and very, very factual. You ask a question and you get an answer.

The contrast to Konrad Mizzi couldn’t be greater. It’s a shame that the finance minister can’t be like this when he’s sitting next to Mizzi.

I can see that Mizzi’s extraordinary level of obtuseness is enough to flip even the calmest person’s switch, but he’s got to try.

Oh, and I loved that thing with the iPad.

Simon is good, but so is Tonio. Whilst watching the following feelings are emerging:

    1. satisfaction that I am living in a country led by sane, down to earth humans, not brutish amateur conmen.

    2. despair that fellow Maltese are ready to risk all for pie in the sky (bought by a few euros less in our utility bills, if at all);

    3. hope (however fading) that switchers, floaters, non voters etc see the light before it is too late.

    • Harry Purdie says:

Three excellent points. However, I fear our brain cells have become too complacent and forgetful. Lack of vigilance has been the downfall of many happy countries over the years.

Too bad, really like this place.

  4. Luigi says:

Eh the Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountacy is just an episode. Qeghdin sew f’dal pajjiz. Please note that Tonio Fenech is a FEMA produce.

[Daphne – “a FEMA produce”. Kill me now.]

    • thehobbit says:

      ‘…is just an episode’

      X’inhu jghid?

    • Galian says:

Does anyone else think that Luigi is that Konrad Mizzi guy?

[Daphne – No way. He doesn’t sound older than 19.]

      • Jozef says:

A very grumpy 19 year old.

      • U Le! says:

I am morally convinced that Luigi is 20 years old.

      • H.P. Baxxter says:

Luigi is just a 19-year old member of Pulse, studying economics, and a rising star in the Labour youth movement.

He isn’t grumpy at all. In fact, the future belongs to him – and I, for one, acknowledge him and his friends as our overlords.

    • La Redoute says:

What do you expect from someone who’s planning to vote for vegetables?

      • Luigi says:

I am still evaluating. Se Mai, I vote for AD otherwise my grandmother would be rolling in her grave.

      • Angus Black says:

        @ Luigi

Your grandmother is in no position to give a rat’s ass about who you vote for, but YOU will be directly affected if you waste your vote, or giving it to the Labour Party.

A nasty story is already unfolding because of Labour’s folly. Just imagine the price you will have to pay if Labour finds itself governing and dumps 600 million additional debt on the State.

Tough to mature in eight weeks, but one can always think about his/her interests.

    • Neil Dent says:

Luigi – keep it up brother! Don’t let the bastards get you down!

Oh, and lay off whichever hallucinogenics you’re taking before these very random and strange posts.

You’re fooling absolutely nobody by the way, although I can’t speak for your sainted grandmother.

  5. CIS says:

Tonio Fenech has surprised everyone. He has done his homework well. Answering all questions to the point. Prosit Tonio.

  6. Vanni says:

‘It’s a shame that the finance minister can’t be like this when he’s sitting next to Mizzi.’

It’s easy to understand and commiserate with Fenech.

He is a money cruncher, and naturally deals in absolutes (1 + 1 = 2).

When faced with somebody who claims that 1 + 1 = 999, he will take the time to explain, but after repeating and bringing evidence to lay bare the error, he gets frustrated as he cannot understand the sheer obstinate stupidity facing him.

Fenech can argue and demolish any argument using a logical approach, but expects to be dealing with people who are open to reason and the proof of his arguments.

In other words, Konrad is like an eel, and Tonio’s frustration in pinning him down is evident.

    • Neil Dent says:

100% correct. It is sheer exasperation on Tonio Fenech’s part. Surely not helped by what the polls are foretelling him.

These absolute ‘zeros’ WILL be in power, putting their whacked out plans into action two months from now.

      Can we blame his frustration?

  7. Paul says:

The more i hear these figures of hundreds of millions of Euros we are meant to be saving under Labour’s energy scheme, the more it is sounding like one of those Nigerian email scams.

You are told you “won” millions, and the minute you are stupid enough to swallow the con, you realise you are actually out of pocket in actual fact!

    God please help us.

    • Ghoxrin Punt says:

You’re quite right, Paul, but the sad fact is that a number of Maltese have fallen for these scams all in the hope of gaining a buck.

And some of them were ‘businessmen’.

  8. Ghoxrin Punt says:

The reality is that Tonio, like any normal intelligent person, has little tolerance for wanton obtuseness and blatant bluffers.
