They’ve added another minister, so that makes it 15 + 8 parliamentary secretaries
Since the original list came out, there’ve been two changes. Manuel Mallia was originally listed as Minister of Justice, but then a correction came out and he’s now officially Minister of the Interior and National Security, though he is also responsible for justice.
Take note of the name: in contemporary society, the Minister of the Interior is the Minister of Home Affairs. And nobody outside wartime or imminent threat of attack has a Minister of National Security, unless it’s the government of Belize, Azerbaijan or Jamaica.
This would be the Rightwingers Ministry, with all the things that get Norman Lowell fans excited, like the police, the army and now, the name.
I wonder if it was Manuel Mallia who drew in the support of Norman Lowell for the (progressive and liberal) Labour Party.
The other change is that they’ve added a Minister of Gozo. The news got out later than the rest because probably negotiations were still underway.

I can imagine him saying to himself ‘Jien Primmistru. I made it hapin’
What a sad night for culture in Malta. Dalle stelle alle stalle in just three days.
I wonder what Franco must think of the fact that home affairs and justice have, to all intents and purposes, been grouped together once again, after all that brouhaha last year …
Deep feelings of regret must be rising from some people’s souls.
It’s looking like a monkey party.
Guess Doreen ‘tal fjur’ has bet on a limp horse. Jose Herrera the only MP not to shake prime minister’s hand.
So that makes it 23 people to try to do what Gonzi’s team did with practically half as many people. And they had the bloody cheek to incite people against the 500 Euro increase per week per “Gonzi” minister!
What have Muscat’s loyalists got to say about it now, with the increased costs, what with 7 EXTRA ministers and 4 EXTRA parliamentary secretaries.
Bilhaqq, Franc Debono qadhom ma tawhx post fuq xi bord, meta gab 100 fir-religjon fl-eta’ tenera ta 12 sena’?
Doesn’t he look sexy in that outfit? At least it attracts chicks like bees to honey. Who wants to be a threat to national security with such an impressive guy in charge?
I really feel secure with Emmanuel Mallia as Minister for National Security.
Would be interesting to know what Franco Debono thinks about having the police, AG and Justice part of the same Ministry?
It does not interest me in the least, dear VS, what that creature thinks about grouping of jobs in Manuel’s – or anybody else’s – Ministry.
The creature may just as well think that the sun is ice-cold for that matter, as far as I and so many thousands are concerned.
Joseph Muscat huwa serju, ried Ministru tal-Intern u tas-Sigurta Nazzjonali li jkun ‘ankra’ li mahha jintrabat kollox, Izda mid-dehra tfixkel it-terminologija marittima, u minnflok sab li kellu ‘baga’ min dawk li jorbtu fuq xi sikka.
Qed jinghad ukoll li habat tajjeb li l-ufficju tal-Ministeru qieghed daqshekk qrib il-Fontana ta Pjazza San Gorg.
Jistghu ma jtuhx karozza u xufier u jmur kullimkien bil-mixi. Jaghmillu tajjeb, skond Marion.
So what’s this Joseph, rope in the token “ex-nationalist” to do the most unattractive job, and initiate the immigrant “push backs”, or whatever term they have for it?
National security my arse. We have trouble justifying having the AFM, so pull the other one Dott.
Bunga bunga, baby!

One of my favourite TV shows is ‘Yes Prime Minister’ so I’m going to it sit back and enjoy this real life comedy for as long as it lasts.
It will not be a real-life comedy, my friend – and, believe you me, it will last very very much longer than you think.
Manwel Mallia is the obvious choice for Minister of National Security. Look at him in his ministerial costume.
He’s a superhero who will save us from terrestrial and extraterrestrial enemies.
Is that a bird? Is it a plan. Or is it just a fat old man in a bad outfit?
Didn’t Labour vote against Justice and Home Affairs being in the same portfolio – in support of one of Franco’s whinges.
What hypocrites.
What’s the pay of a minister and parliamentary secretary? Let’s work out how much Joseph’s cabinet is going to cost us vis a’ vis Gonzi’s cabinet with 500 Eur raise.
[Daphne – No raise; they stopped the process and refunded the money, remember.]

I know, but even if they took the raise (and it’s justified, mind you), I bet it would have been cheaper than Joseph’s enormous cabinet.
About this raise, aren’t I correct in saying that it was approved by both sides before the financial crisis and it coming into effect during was just bad timing, and they didn’t go ahead with it in the end?
It was the first of Joseph’s lies.
Given the size of this cabinet, it seems most of the MPsin opposition at the time were in favour.
True to their style, they will find their way around principle at our expense. Cheap lowlifes.
Yes it definitely was. One of the earliest parliamentary decisions made in the new 2008 administration. There were recorded PQs & answers about it.
OK it obviously wasn’t done with fanfare and flourish, but when the proverbial hit the fan I remember thinking to myself that this had definitely been reported, how else could I have been aware of it? It was never kept secret from anyone.
I wonder how many of those 18k or more swingers took their decision based on this Labour lie.
It’s not only the salary of the Minister or the PS – one needs to add the cars, offices, staff, communication equipment, and other related costs. Each minister / PS comes in with his / her personal entourage and perks for his staff.
The honoraria by 8 ministers works out to €214,000 PA whilst the salary increase due to the bigger PL cabinet works out to about €930,000 PA.
So in short – the new PL group will cost us €700k more per year than the PN group would have should the honoraria have STAYED.
I think what he meant is what are the wages of the new cabinet vis a vis Gonzi’s cabinet KIEKU hadu il-500 zieda.
When Sant was elected Refalo threatened that he would cross the house if Gozo wasn’t represented in the cabinet by him.
To be fair Giovanna did something similar to Gonzi. There is no love lost between these two.
Start digging that tunnel and we’ll get rid of this double work and preferential treatment to a bunch of Mafiosi.
What the hell is he wearing?

What about SIlvio Parnis? He said it himself that Joseph told him that he was going to be a Minister for the South.

[Daphne – I won’t point out to you the historical link between those three countries, Stefan, as I don’t wish to be rude to any of them. You merely prove my point about the name’s historical association with far right authoritarianism.]
Ok, then just list 3 countries in Europe WITHOUT a ministry for the Interior. I bet you will not be able to do so!
I am sure you have problems and I am also sure you will not approve this post.
Journalists to research. Blogger just blow our their Facebook style “thoughts”. You see the difference?
Shouldn’t Manuel Mallia have been given responsibility for water conservation knowing he has a fetish for jerry cans?
