Former Super One newscaster Veronique Dalli and Jose Herrera law partner has been appointed to the MEPA board

The list of new MEPA board members includes Veronique Dalli, sister to Super One’s Miriam Dalli and herself a Super One newscaster before she graduated as a lawyer.
On graduation, she joined Jose Herrera’s law firm and is still there, now running the office for him since he was made Parliamentary Secretary for Culture – unless, of course, he has continued with his private practice as a lawyer as other cabinet members appear to be doing too.

Vincent Cassar has been appointed as the new Chairman of the MEPA board. He is currently the President of the Chamber of Architects and also worked as a permanent secretary in the Works Ministry between 2004 and 2008
In a statement the OPM said that, coupled with the moderation for which Cassar is renowned, his vast experience would be an asset for MEPA’s change in direction. The Opposition has still to nominate its representative.
Architects Franco Montesin and Sandra Magro are continuing as Vice-Chairmen and will have a definite contract.
The Government said that environment groups and NGOs are to be represented on the board with immediate effect. They had been requested to submit a shortlist of their preferred representatives. Alex Vella of the Ramblers Association was subsequently chosen.

Charlo’ Camilleri – Agriculture Department representative
Prof Victor Axiaq – Environmentalist and lecturer
Ray Camilleri – Lands Department
Veronique Dalli – Lawyer
Matthew Pace – Financial consultant
Timothy Gambin – Lecturer
Joseph M Sammut – Government representative
Alex Vella – NGOs representative
Angelle Zammit – Director of a foreign company based in Malta
Dr Ivan Tabone – Transport Malta representative.
We can rest assured that all these board members are going to criticise and stop the procedure for the new power station to be built.
Are there any observer members on this board? Before there used to be and I think most were architects.

She’s also buddy buddy with Consuelo. This won’t do Musumeci any harm.

Ok, this is becoming a disgrace. New MEPA chairman Vince Cassar had better make clear his terms of reference and what happens between now and the ‘reformed’ local plans, which, as Sandro Chetcuti would have it, should reflect ‘today’s realities.’
He said developers should get what’s theirs by right. Whatever that means, he didn’t specify.
I understand MEPA’s mapserver facilities and access to all documentation may be the first to go. Too bureacratic, costly and in breach of privacy.
If they intend to take back any stringent measure, leaving everyone risking their investment, simply because Sandro and Musumeci have ‘powerful’ clients, (remember Robert’s letters to The Times), all hell will break loose.
Hands off village cores, UCA’s, ODZ’s and don’t even think about a property spike.

Karmenu Vella was adamant that any issue – read Maltatoday type ‘SCANDAL’ – an applicant may have, will fall squarely on case officers’ shoulders.
Marie Louise Coleiro was on ONE’s breakfast show this morning – she pointed out to a ‘3000-strong’ waiting list for social housing.

Too bad we’re so tiny. The EU should have had this bunch in their radar by now.
However, with such a large US embassy on our shores, analizing what is transpiring, I would assume that diplomatic pouches are flying back to the land of the free, incorporating copious historical incidents and allegiances (presently being resurrected) of the former MLP, including a prediction of what is to come.
OK at least MEPA’s finances are in strong hands!
The most feminist Government in history appears to have reduced the number of women on this particular board.
There goes another of its electoral pledges – pledge number 6(16) to be precise: “Naċċertaw li aktar membri fuq bordijiet, kummissjonijiet u nominazzjonijiet oħra mill-Gvern ikunu nisa.”

Where’s Robert Musumeci? How come he’s not on this board? What does Labour have lined up for him OR his partner? This is getting worrying.
And what about Astrid Vella. Shouldn’t she be on the board as well.
Astrid Vella will head the environment authority when the MEPA is split by the end of 2014.
One of the new members is Prof Victor Axiaq who, apart from being a University Lecturer, chairs the Curia’s Environment Commission and who in the middle of the election campaign issued a statement supporting the PL’s stance on MEPA. He’s been using the Church’s commission to push his agenda for some time … and now, of course, it’s payback time.
I remember that statement issued by the Curia’s commission. Things are becoming clearer day by day.
