Mr Marlene Mizzi, the magistrate Antonio Mizzi who allows his wife (does he have a choice?) to use his state-funded chauffeured limo for her toy-shop deliveries, is to be made a judge.

The Malta Independent on Sunday reports that this appointment was discussed at this government’s very first cabinet meeting. How pressing it must have been.

The other one is deputy Labour leader Toni Abela’s law partner, Charmaine Galea, who will be made a magistrate.

And once again the Herrera family gets a sock in the jaw. But quite frankly, it would be the absolute limit to have that unfit woman made a judge (though there’s no telling what the plans are at this stage). It’s bad enough that the last Labour government made her a magistrate on the advice and recommendation of one George Abela, then deputy Labour leader, who I am beginning to think is a sucker for manipulative ladies of a certain kind.

The Malta Independent is more on the ball than the Times, which is always trailing behind on such news items.

What? Judge? You must are wrong Daphne, because Joseph (Malta Taghna Lkoll) Muscat promised voters that judiciary appointments will be decided together with the Opposition.

I think Joseph is doing all that the great Niccolo wrote in The Prince. I will not quote, but basically he told the Prince to take care of those who helped him rise to power or else he would lose it all.

[Daphne – They lost it all nonetheless. You will notice that Florence is no longer a city state.]
