Such arrogance – and vulgarity

Published: June 25, 2013 at 10:53am

The Prime Minister and Mrs Muscat, with their daughters in tow, delayed the Air Malta flight from Rome by around an hour last night when they turned up late.

The passengers were left seated at the gate for an hour until they turned up. Mrs Muscat waltzed into Club Class in her idea of travelling clothes – a swirly mass of chiffon – to the stony glares of those around her.

Meanwhile, Owen Bonnici looked about him with that ‘please like me’ smile of his, but nobody smiled back.

I now expect a special edition of Malta Today, investigating why the plane didn’t simply leave without them, as they did with the Air Malta CEO’s wife a couple of weeks ago.

They fly together? What if there’s a plane crash?

  3. Rose Grima says:

How arrogant of the PM and his wife.

  4. AG says:

    Unbelievably arrogant.

Does Mrs. Muscat still want us to believe that whenever it is reported that when her husband leaves people waiting, it is either not true or that it is someone else’s fault?

  5. Str8 says:

Lead by example, Mr Prime Minister. Where is the discipline or standards of this Government? You had said that you will lead and administer with respect and humbleness, as if your party had won the election by only 1 vote majority! Not so respectful indeed and this is shame on you and on the attitude of the lot.

  6. Blue says:

The only place Mrs Michelle Muscat seems to allow her husband to travel to alone is Libya.

  7. RBugeja says:

He’s nearly ALWAYS late wherever he goes..so I’m not surprised.

  8. Socrates says:

This has fast become a tragi-comedy.

Both Joseph and his wife are failing miserably to lead by example.

  9. just me says:

And this arrogance and lack of respect just after 3 months..

  10. Calculator says:

‘Arrogance’ and ‘vulgarity’ don’t even begin to describe these crass people.

  11. the happy one says:

Hope there was no one with a connecting flight. What do you do for a refund in this case? Would Air Malta be liable?

  12. Rita Camilleri says:

Do these idiots know that planes have time slots and if these are lost, the airline has to pay a fee? U mhux xorta, mhux bin but il-poplu.

  13. etil says:

If I were on the plane travelling to Rome would I have been arrested if I passed a comment about the delay caused by the PM and wife ?

  14. Victor says:

You’re so right about what Malta Today should do, but of course they won’t. Did they ever report that the delay had absolutely nothing to do with Mrs Peter Davies?

On the other hand, the reason for this delay is as clear as crystal. Malta Today should ask Air Malta whether the company was charged by the airport for this delay and if in the affirmative, what the charge was.

    Sheer arrogance and ignorance!

  15. Antoine Vella says:

This is not only about arrogance and an ‘ancien régime’ kind of attitude.

The delay must have caused a minor disruption in a busy international airport so the question is: how much did it cost Air Malta?

  16. Blue Bird says:

And then they called Lawrence Gonzi arrogant.

  17. Angus Black says:

Arrogance, ignorance and coarseness at their worst.

    Antipatici w tad-daqqiet ta harta.

  18. tabby says:

    The Great Leader…

  19. M. Cassar says:

Because if one does not have a private jet one should simply treat the commercial airliner as if it were his own private jet.

Simple really, that is what the mantra of governing in a fresh, new way without arrogance means.

  20. zunzana says:

Can someone tell the public the cost to Air Malta for this delay caused by the emperor and empress?

If Owen Bonnici was expecting somebody on that plane to smile back at him, after waiting for the entourage for an hour, he must be very naive.

  21. Alexander Ball says:

Who is in charge at Air Malta, the CEO or the Prime Minister?

If it’s the former then Malta Today could very well be blaming Peter Davis for the delay.

  22. 36,000 says:

    Kemm int imdejqa DAF!!!

    U FADALLEK HAFNA SNIN HEKK!!!

  23. GiovDeMartino says:

And what happened to that Air Malta official who delayed another Air Malta from Sicily last summer? He was being investigated and we were told that the result would be published after Christmas.

And what about those security guards who were supposed to be at Corradino but were found somewhere else?

    • Victor says:

So what do you think you’re proving by your comment?

That it’s all right for the Prime Minister to behave in an obnoxious way just because others before him have done so?

Don’t you think that your line of thinking should be that the Prime Minister has the duty to set an example?

  24. drinu says:

I was there. We weren’t left seated on the plane, but we waited for more than a hour at the gate. Then, the PM and the “bella compagnia” arrived waving at us. The pilot told us that the plane arrived late from Malta!!!

    • M. Cauchi says:

I was a passenger on the Malta-Rome flight on Monday evening which was scheduled to leave Malta at 18.40 but ended up leaving at 19.20 or later, making me lose my connection flight at Rome and on top of that, Air Malta charged me for a re-booking fee! The reason I was given was that the plane had to be diverted to Malpensa from Rome to collect passengers from there like what had happened a few weeks ago, so it ended up coming late to Malta. I am now doubting what the real reason for the delay was!

  25. gil says:

No surprise. Ask all the people who take the Brussels Malta route how long that plonker has made them wait in the past.

  26. gil says:

Also, take-off slots cost thousands of euros. How much did it cost Air Malta for losing their slot?

  27. pale blue my foot! says:

Come on, Malta Today. Do your stuff now like the good old days.

We`re sick and tired of just hearing about Olafgate and Dalligate from you.

Time to start talking about things.

  28. ciccio says:

    Back to Air Labour?

  29. TROY says:

    AIR LABOUR

  30. cityblu says:

    Ghax Air Malta taghna lkoll.

  31. Roberto says:

Not that I doubt your honesty Daphne, but what is your source for this story? If it is true then it is the height of arrogance. When a person delays a flight it has a multitude of possible knock on effects. All the people waiting at the other end have to wait which effects their business, family life – or both. This is the important stuff Daphne – hallina minn whether Michelle has nice legs or not. If this is true then it is front page news — or at least it should be in a modern democratic European state where the Prime Minister has been elected on the promise of meritocracy.

[Daphne – What is the source of this story? Use your imagination. The plane was full of Maltese people. At least one of them was bound to tell me. In the event, two of them did – separately.]

    • Gahan says:

Can you imagine the frustration of missing a connecting flight because of a tardy VIP?

This is looking more like Saudi Arabia: when the king is flown on his private plane from his airport, all roads are closed in the airport area and you will have helicopters hovering around for security purposes.

And you’ve got to leave your camera in your pocket or you’ll wonder what hit you.

  32. La Redoute says:

Was Mr Simone Cini flying the plane?

  33. Tracy says:

The arrogant attitude of : ‘ la ahna qeghdin fil-gvern, naghmlu li rridu’.

  34. just me says:

    AIr Malta taghna wkoll.
