And then Manuel Mallia didn’t even bother to turn up

Great going with the Police Minister: he turns the police into cooks and waiters for his and Mrs Muscat’s banquet at Girgenti Palace, then doesn’t turn up to the year’s most significant police ceremony: the annual commemoration of police officers who have died.

Too hot for him at the Addolorata Cemetery in July, perhaps?

Well, as long as he breached protocol to send chief of staff Do YOu Know Who I Am Scerri, instead of the ministry’s permanent secretary, that’s fine.

I just love the way these people seem to think their weekends are their own, even when they’re running the country.

That’s just the thing with these people: governing a country isn’t a vocation to them. It’s just a job – and just a part-time one at that – with privileges. Protocol, duty and decency be damned.

That goes to show what a lack of respect he has for the Police.

Another kick in the teeth for the police, Their morale and that of their families must be rock bottom by now. Mr Mallia thinks that there is an orchestrated campaign against him. In truth it is his actions and decisions which have brought criticism. The decision not to attend this annual event is another error of judgement. The minister is an absolute disgrace and unsuited to high office.

Mrs Manuel Mallia is still perfecting her English, that’s why we are not seeing her out at official engagements yet. Although we would love to see some Eastern European style at our national events. That is acceptable it seems, l-aqwa li mhix sewda.
