Moralment fallut huwa min igib l-interess ta’ haddiehor qabel dak ta’ pajjizu. Kburija bid-decizjoni iebsa li ha l-Priministru, he stood up and I’m sure he will be counted, xi haga li gvern nazzjonalista f’tant snin ma kienx kapaci jaghmel. L-attakki fuq il-PM JM ghandkom tghadduhom fil-konfront tal-Unjoni Ewropeja li mhux tintervjeni fl-interess ta’ pajjizna.

Jekk din tajba ghas-sindku, mela jien tajjeb ghal ministru.

    • Donna says:

You can’t judge a person by one single comment, how stupid

      • Fenech says:

I agree, spoke to her a couple of times, she’s a very smart girl.

      • Ross says:

Donna, I thought you can`t judge a person from one single comment.

      • Donna says:

It is stupid to judge! Wasn’t an offence towards Mr Portelli

      • H.P. Baxxter says:

        Define smart.

      • Liberal says:

Oh yes you can. From the single sentence “Moralment fallut huwa min igib l-interess ta’ haddiehor qabel dak ta’ pajjizu” you can determine that the person is politically far-right and has her ideas on morality all warped up.

      • Kevin says:

        @Fenech,

If the Mayor and all those who support the PM’s decision were truly smart and were truly seeking the best for Malta, they would realise that attracting negative attention on issues of human rights is definitely against the national interest.

  2. Delta says:

These people forget that we are part of the EU.

    “L-attakki fuq il-PM JM ghandkom tghadduhom fil-konfront tal-Unjoni Ewropeja”

To put it in a Local Council perspective its like she’s saying “Do not attack the local mayor, attack the local council”

  3. Antoine Vella says:

I’m sure he’s been counted too. As a pompous bully.

  4. Josette says:

Excuse me, is this the mayor of Qormi and, if it is, is that an appropriate photograph?

And if there is a conflict between national interest and human rights, human rights should win any time.

That is our own guarantee that our rights will always be respected. This nibbling at rights may start with those of “outsiders” but should the government get away with it, then who will be next?

  5. ciccio says:

Oh, Nuxellina. See her comment “L-attakki fuq il-PM JM ghandkom tghadduhom fil-konfront tal-Unjoni Ewropeja li mhux tintervjeni fl-interess ta’ pajjizna.”

Is she asking the EU to interfere in our national issues?

    • Calculator says:

I wish they would at this point. The responsibility to protect / humanitarian intervention would be a valid excuse.

  6. Zammit says:

Moralment fallut huwa min jippoza quddiem “il-gijzer” fil-bitha u ma jindunax li daw in-nies li qed titkellem fuqhom la qatt raw “gijzer” u jekk jippuzaw fil-bitha xi tir ta’ senter jaraw u mhux xi patetiku bil-kamera jieha xi ritratt ta’ xi mara bla mohh.

  7. Rumplestiltskin says:

I’m sure he will be counted. But among whom?

    • Francis Saliba MD says:

It would be interesting if the Mayoress of Qormi would elucidate what exactly Joseph Muscat be counted as “what” – because a politician could be counted as as a statesman as well as a pompous fool.

  8. Ghoxrin Punt says:

Oh he’s being counted, but he’s getting negative points.

And do you think that had we been alone and not part of the EU we would still not have this problem? The problem will be a thousandfold worse.

  9. Gahan says:

Jien m’hinix nifhem kif jigu l-emigranti mill-Libja u nattakkaw lil Ewropa ghal hazin li tkun qedthalli li jsir il-Libja.

Ghax Joseph ma jheddidx (Ghax hekk biss donnu jaf jaghmel)lil-Libja li se nzommu mil-flus ta’ Gaddafi li kellu fil-banek Maltin biex inmantnu lil dawn imsejkna emigranti?

Hamsin Ewro kull jum ghal-kull emigrant li jitnizzel Malta bl-ispejjez tas-sahha mizjudin maghhom.

She’s got looks, but no brains. Wonder how she got there?

    • Gahan says:

The water heater in the corner of the yard you mean?

    • Silvio says:

      Malta’s own Nicole Minetti?

    • etil says:

Probably other brainless people voted her in.

      • Donatella says:

Jiena jisimni Donatella Cassar u residenta Hal Qormi, qabel ma tirremettu l-ghira fuq is-Sindku taghna ahjar tigu taraw ix-xoghol siewi li qed twettaq ghalina l-Qriema. Ahna kuntenti hafna biha, tfajla simpatika, brava u biezla. Keep it up Sindku, ahna warajk.

        Ps: nispera li tippubblika l-kumment.

  11. CIS says:

Dear Leader may have won this battle but not the war.

    • Francis Saliba MD says:

The peremptory cancellation of a much touted imminent push back of refugees is not a battle won, not a won war and not even a wise tactical retreat. It is a humiliating rout of the “Coraggio! Fuggiam!” type – when what it is needed is skilful diplomacy not bluster.

    • rounhead says:

And what a costly battle it has been. I hope that he won’t win any more battles in this fashion. As King Pyrrhus said: “Another victory like this and we’re finished.”

Rosianne Cutajar is a teacher in a boys’ school. What sort of lessons does she teach?

  14. Matthew S says:

Can someone stop this nonsense about standing up and being counted? Neither one nor the other has happened.

The last country to use this bullying tactic was North Korea when it threatened South Korea and the USA with nuclear armageddon a few months back.

Nobody outside North Korea was impressed. The general attitude was that the North Korean leader was throwing one of his tantrums to impress the populace back home. The rest of the world felt it had to bear it while making sure that North Korea is kept in check.

Months later, North Korea is still suffering the economic repercussions of its awful decisions and nobody, not even China, respects North Korea more than they did before.

The world sees Kim Jong Un as an out of control child given too many toys to play with.

This is exactly how the world views Joseph Muscat too.

  15. matt says:

@Gahan, you hit the nail on its head. Why is Muscat afraid to talk to the Libyan leaders about these immigrants? Why did he bother to go there just a few days ago?

  16. Village says:

Allavolja njoranta, xorta wahda nivvotala. Il-hsieb kultant pervers.

  17. M. Cassar says:

When a person in public office does not see any problem with putting this photo out in public one wonders what went wrong. If this person is indeed a teacher then one starts to understand what went wrong. Imagine a regular and exclusive diet of this attitude and super one, only one guess at the likely outcome!

  18. Mark says:

what is pri-ministru? or did she mean pre-ministru?

  19. Worried says:

So Ms. Cutajar believes that the national interest trumps human rights (as Josette pointed out). What worries me is that a bright young teacher and mayor believes this. It is extremely worrying because this is the logic of totalitarianism.

Once you create a ‘state of exception’ by ‘disapplying’ the basic legal rights and protections to a class of people (in this case, the immigrants) where do you stop? Hitler’s infamous Reichstag Fire Decree of 1933 which was a short law which disapplied the legal provisions which guaranteed basic civil liberties was justified on the basis of the national interest.

    ‘Decisjoni iebsa.’

  21. mattie says:

What surprises me is how these people know what Lawrence Gonzi was not capable of doing.

    What arrogance!

How can someone from an unprofessional political background, decide what the Prime Minister was not capable of doing?

    http://www.independent.com.mt/mobile/2013-07-11/news/no-signed-agreement-to-date-on-free-joseph-calleja-concert-2045476864/

Totally out of point. Have you seen? Yet more evidence that we have an amateurish government (not that more was needed.)

  23. Pontius says:

    Harry,
Even Cicciolina & Carfagna had the looks but I doubt how politically capable they were. I rest my case.

  24. mattie says:

    The chattering classes.

  25. Scarlet says:

The photo says it all. So cheap.

  26. Pitravu says:

Using her argument if somebody ignores your arguments on a particular subject, punch him in the face so he takes notice of you.

  27. Claude Sciberras says:

    Prim Ministru, not Priministru.
