Just lovely: “Norman Lowell gives his support to Joseph Muscat over pushback attempt”

Malta Today

Far-rightist Norman Lowell has extended his support to Prime Minister Joseph Muscat’s attempt to push back asylum seekers to Libya, before they can apply for protection.

(…)
Firebrand Lowell also launched himself into an invective against migrants, describing asylum seekers as “a cultural danger”, and that he supported Muscat for putting pushbacks on the mainstream agenda.

“Had he gone ahead, he would be a hero for the whole of Europe. But he lost his nerve after having prepared everything,” he said, referring to temporary stop orders issued by the European Court of Human Rights that put an end to the attempted pushback.

Lowell suggested that Malta should open its own embassies in such African countries as Somalia and Sudan, to issue passports that would allow asylum seekers to fly to European member states.

Does this chap lurk at MIA arrivals with his ‘colour charts’?

Anyone with a skin tone ‘darker than the average Maltese’ is advised they aren’t welcome.

I know a few swarthy-looking rugby players I would love him to debate with.

    • La Redoute says:

The absurdity s that Norman Lowell and his followers think they’re white. Emmy Bezzina might be an exception, with his shocking pink complexion.

      • H.P. Baxxter says:

Emmy Bezzina is a denizen of the deep. He is lobster-red. He probably defended the Little Mermaid at her indecent exposure trial.

      • La Redoute says:

His views are fascist, do that makes him back on the inside.

      • Francis Saliba MD says:

        @H P Baxxter

Lobsters are actually greenish-brown to black, turning to bright red only after boiling.

  2. john says:

Lowell was recently ‘convicted on appeal to 15 months imprisonment suspended for three years.’

This sentence means nothing to him. Wouldn’t it be more appropriate, more useful, and so much sweeter, were he to be sentenced to a significant number of hours of community service, at the detention centres.

    • Critical says:

Good idea, on the one hand … but on the other hand, why would you want to expose people in detention centres to such atrocity?

  3. Liberal says:

And there’s that Neo-Nazi flag adaptation again.

And Lowell’s lawyer signs off as “Senior Ambassador of Peace” as states that he has made “a name for himself as a Family Lawyer, Constitutional Law lawyer with particular emphasis on Human Rights” (Source: http://www.emmybezzina.org/bibliography.html).

I agree to everyone’s right to the best possible defence and freedom of expression.

However, surely one could refuse serving some clients because defending them would be a breach of personal ethics/morals.

    • Liberal says:

He even calls himself an “intellectual revolutionary”. There’s that inferiority complex screaming again.

    • Marlowe says:

After reading that, I climbed so high up his ego that I’m scared to look and climb back down. Why do so many Maltese males become ridiculous once they pass 60?

      • H.P. Baxxter says:

Emmy Bezzina’s been ridiculous at least since his teens. Ask A. Charles about his antics at the University of Malta in the early 1970s.

  8. Another John says:

I wonder if any far rightist has bothered to know the significance of the eight points on the cross.

The events of the last month are a clear indicator of which one is Muscat’s true hero.

  12. AE says:

Norman Lowell looks as though he is from the Near East. Perhaps that’s why he hates Jews.

  13. ken il malti says:

Norman Lowell is nothing but an agent provocateur in Malta.

His over the top and very badly done ham acting as “Mr. Fascism” is a dead give-away.

These are mighty handy to provide the opportunity for the authorities to issue legislation designed to preempt any dissent against illegal migration and effectively stifle it on the penalty of a prison sentence and hefty fines.

    They got everything figured out.

    • Liberal says:

I don’t believe Lowell is acting a part at all. He shows obvious signs of mental problems.

      • ken il malti says:

One can still act and show signs of a mental problem.

Malta is chock full of people with mental problems, diagnosed and undiagnosed, so it is no surprise.

  14. Michael says:

Why is this idiotic sod still lurking around the political scene?

Wasn’t a humiliating 4 votes (2008 election) enough to make him disappear? Guess that because his daughter was leaning Labour, he must’ve been awarded something too, seeing that this is the protocol nowadays.

“WHAT THE HELL?!” is something of a norm to say.

Now here’s NEWS about another one who wanted to save Malta from illegal immigrants.

    It’s Denis Catania tal-bazuti.

Some years ago, he ended up an immigrant himself, in the US, where he got himself into some trouble.

Daphne had broke the news on this blog about Catania’s escape to Cuba via Florida with his girlfriend Diane Camacho after they had sold off their property at short notice and at a substantial financial loss, and their subsequent arraignment in a US court where they were charged with the murder of a 23 year-old man in New Jersey in 2011.

Now, a week ago, in a court of NJ, he has pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter, and is awaiting sentence on 22 August.

“He faces 22 to 25 years in prison when he is sentenced Aug. 22.”

Joseph Muscat has gone to great lengths to present himself as the Maltese version of Barack Obama. But now we know that the similarity stops at the hand gestures, the confetti and the teleprompters.

  17. Lura bhal granc says:

I am not a saint but here is the meaning of the 8 pointed Maltese cross:

•Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Verse 3)
•Blessed are the meek: for they shall possess the land. (Verse 4)
•Blessed are they who mourn: for they shall be comforted. (Verse 5)
•Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill. (Verse 6)
•Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. (Verse 7)
•Blessed are the clean of heart: for they shall see God. (Verse 8)
•Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. (Verse 9)
•Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Verse 10)

    • Last Post says:

Those so-called ‘Beatitudes’ were uttered (in the vernacular) by his brother (Fr) Dijonisju as a tribute to Dom Mintoff during the latter’s funeral service at St John’s Co-Cathedral, to the emotional clapping of the congregation.

It seems quite easy to (mis)use mystical quotations to suit all hues of political leanings. At the end of the day don’t we all recognise the tree from its fruit?

  18. Lura bhal granc says:

As far as I know, (correct me if am wrong), the OPEL like symbol that Lowell is using is actually the symbol of the river that flows through hell; Styx.
