There’s going to be a national front/fascist demonstration in Valletta on 4 August. And they’re assembling “quddiem Burger King”.
There’s a Facebook group called Malta Taghna which is organising a fascist/national front demonstration in Valletta on 4 August. And they describe it as “uniting with our prime minister”.
Yes, the very same prime minister who only yesterday said to the press that he is not stirring up racist sentiment, and that the racist language being used on the internet is that of an insignificant minority.
The last time the fascists demonstrated in Valletta against African immigrants – also meeting ‘quddiem Burger King’ – anti-fascism demonstrators were not permitted by the police to hold a counter-protest.
A few led by Mark Montebello, who was carrying only a small printed sign, were surrounded by police officers who repeatedly tried to lead them away on the grounds that they constituted a provocation to the others.
They were jeered, insulted and threatened by the anti-African-immigrant demonstrators, and despite the heavy presence of police around him, one of them got to Montebello, seized his sign and destroyed it, to the cheers of the mob. See the video I’ve uploaded below.
I trust that on 4 August, the new Police Commissioner will not issue the same instructions, and that if a small group of anti-fascists turns up to counter what is likely to be a massive mob of people uniting with their prime minister to protest against African immigrants, it is the savages among the latter who are carted away, and not the peaceful demonstrators who are considered to be ‘provoking’ the violent ones just by standing there holding placards.
Malta Taghna
It Pains me when I See my country sink deeper and deeper with every boat that we accept.
It Saddens me when I remember the fiasco our children going to inherit
It amazes me how a country filled with ‘intellectuals’ s in every sphere, don’t utter a single word about this looming catastrophe.
It angers me that while other European prime ministers publicly say that a Multi Cultural society is a flop, we’re desperate to try this ugly experiment.
It surprise me how the media is against us , against 95% of the maltese people who are against this silent and subtle invasion of illegal immigrants, of black savages.
It fills me with ENERGY , STRENGTH and HOPE when I Know that on the 4/8/13 ALL THE MALTESE (RED OR BLUE) ARE GOING TO UNITE WITH OUR PRIME MINISTER TO FIGHT ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION!!! THIS IS A NATIONAL ISSUE AND NOT POLITICAL.

Just take note of that reference to ‘of black savages’. If that is not racism at its worst I don’t know how else to describe it.
Mur wahdek siehbi, jien ma ridtx ninghaqad ma’ Joseph Muscat.
Ehe, from Facebook, this problem will be addressed, solved, signed, sealed and delivered.
Facebook: the new hope for the hopeless but it stops there.
Like something good is going to come out from a protest. People who stamp their feet, never get anywhere.
I am sorry Daphne, I absolutely don’t agree with you on this one.
To let the ‘pro’ and the ‘contra’ be in the same physical space is asking for nothing but trouble.
It may be what happens in many democratic states, but we are in Malta, where sometimes, I feel the very basic principles of democracy are not fully comprehended by a large number of its citizens.
The response to this would to be hold a totally separate demonstration and get thousands more who are against the current intolerant feeling to amass by the thousands.
And the police should be ordered to keep one group far away from the others’ day of protest.
I think this is way too much of a hot potato that could potentially torch up into a dangerous and violent day to remotely consider letting any contact occur between one group and the other.
I wish to make it crystal clear that I am specifically referring to those who support anti-immigrant feelings would be the ones, with 100% certainty, to start any violence.
So again, yes, the police should not allow the two groups to be in the same physical space, for the good of the anti-fascism protesters physical safety.
These are extremely hot-headed savage people and are to be treated as a real danger, particularly because they now think they have political support.
Actually I think this protest should not be allowed to take place in the first place.
I have personally asked Amnesty International about it for their advice, help and support. This is their address if anyone is interested in joining me to counteract these morons

Natalie, please don’t gobble me up, but I now disagree with you.
Whatever the case may be, stopping a demonstration from being organised goes against the essence of democracy and free speech.
Please allow me to amplify on this by quoting some lines by Michael Douglas in the film “The American President”.
They may sound naive and maybe a tad unreal, but you cannot deny the basic ideology.
They go like this :
“America is advanced citizenship. You gotta want it bad, ’cause it’s gonna put up a fight. It’s gonna say “You want free speech? Let’s see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who’s standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country can’t just be a flag; the symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then, you can stand up and sing about the “land of the free”.
Hard as it may be, we cannot defend democracy by going against its principals.
errata corrige – principle.
I get what you are saying, a volatile atmosphere would definitely be caused by such a situation.
However this potentially inflammatory situation has been instigated, not by this ignorant fascist group per se, but by Joseph Muscat and Manwel Mallia.
Said gentlemen now have the huge task and moral, political onus to quell what could escalate into violence, ‘Malti kontra Malti.’
Neil, I agree with you.
The government has the moral obligation to dissuade the organisation of that protest.
As EU members, it is our responsibility to keep them. If we weren’t EU members, Malta would have been taken over, by immigrants, completely.

Fejnhom il-Graffiti? Tiftakarhom jipprotestaw kontra kollox? Issa se jipprotestaw kontra l-Gvern?
Where do I apply for political asylum from this country of lunatics? I feel psychologically persecuted by the morally depraved and the ignorant.
When you get to know please share the information. I am second on the list.
Irresponsibly the PM has stoked the fires of xenophobia which, sadly, lurks beneath the skin of quite a few Maltese people, including the sanctimonious ones who grace our churches with their ubiquitous presence.
Where is Mark Montebello in all this?
Use the “Report” button under the “Invited” list to report this event promoting hatred.
Yes. Report the page. It violates Facebook terms and conditions.

In the past few days I deleted and blocked “friends” on my Facebook account for expressing xenophobic ideas and sentiments.
I was appalled by their glorification of Muscat and the hatred thrown at fellow human beings for the simple reason of them being refugees, boat-people or African.
These friends are rabid socjalisti who think that Muscat has the right to govern Malta in this way and they have no bad feelings for the fact that he put Malta in a bad light, splattered all over international news agencies.
The unfortunate thing about all this is that Muscat managed to instil in our younger generations hatred for all those who are not Maltese, especially people who cross over from Africa.
The comments on Facebook by young people are appalling, to say the least. And yet, they don’t seem to have a problem with Estonians, Serbians, Chinese, Polish etc. What a great job Muscat is doing.
I wonder if Michelle Muscat will be front row?
There’s another group on Facebook, Malta Taghna Biss (not Malta Taghna Lkoll anymore?), which is promoting what is possibly the same event given that it is being planned on the same date:

Their ‘national interest’ is certainly not reflected in the quality of language being used, given the amount of spelling mistakes they manage to make in such few sentences.
On a more serious note, what is really worrying and concerning about this group is the image that is being used, which as you will certainly notice is practically a copy of a Nazi flag and which gives away where their inspiration is coming from.
The people who will most abhor this will surely be the BELTIN ta’ San Duminku, who would be celebrating their feast on this day. Like Fr Montebello OP, I will be there for this great festa but I will go early not to miss the “Patriots” march, led by the PM with banner in hand.
Ara ggorrux il-kaccaturi maghkom ukoll. I do know that quite a of the racist commentators particularly on FB come from the hunter stables.
They did correct it in the end but left a trace of the original mistake in the URL which they didn’t change. :-)
There is an uncanny resemblance between these two flags, one picked up from Google images, the other from the Malta Taghna FaceBook page.

Mhux ‘Malta Tagħna Lkoll’ issa?
Anyway, I take offence at their use of the ‘Maltese Cross’ as a banner for their group/event. I think they should – if they have to do something at all – not use the symbol of the charitable SMOM. It’s just disrespectful.
Joseph Muscat is against the “anti migrants” demonstration
http://www.maltatoday.com.mt/en/newsdetails/news/national/Anti-migrants-protest-should-not-place-prime-minister-20130712
As far as I know these gatherings need a police permit. So is the Commission of Police going to issue this permit and allow this racial hatred to take place in the open? As far as I know they are already breaking the law.
How do you report a racist page?
Click on the wheel icon, next to the ‘message’ button. Trent click report, then ‘ I don’t think thus should be on Facebook, then ‘hate speech’.
I see that Malta Taghna “changed his profile picture” on Facebook 17 hours ago.
Before the one above, they had this one, which is still showing among the photos:

Which compares very well with this one:
http://gallery.iskcon.org/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=2911&g2_serialNumber=1
Yet, I wondered why they had to go into the trouble of mixing themselves with the Nazi, when they had this one they could borrow:
http://www.maltastar.com/UserFiles/image/01.Election2013/Election-PL/PL-billboards-artworks/pl_billboard_elec_1.JPG
After all, this one belongs to Malta’s far right party.
Just glancing quickly at the list of those attending, there are at least a couple of Labour local council members, with full cover photo torca regalia. Disgusting to say the least.
I must say I admire Fr. Montebello in this video. He is right: “Hu dan li tghallimna f’2000 sena ta’ Kristjanezmu?”
But where is he now? Why does he not speak out again against racism?
The only reason that people are against irregular immigrants coming from Africa is that these are ‘black’. No one protests against the thousands of other immigrants who come from Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Poland, Syria and so many other countries.
Daphne, I see that your posts must be very effective.
As from early afternoon many posts from “fascists” were circulating on Facebook, saying that the prime minister does not want this demonstration and therefore, if people want to show their solidarity with him they should not attend.
Perhaps this demonstration should not be stopped, in order to see how many people are going to adhere to his wishes.
