Malta’s new ambassador to UNESCO, Monsignor Vella Gauci (Laburist and friend of Twanny Bronka, the Gozo Minister) appoints Felix Busuttil ‘direttur artistiku’ of the Gozo carnival
Monsignor Vella Gauci isn’t only Labour’s appointee as ambassador to UNESCO. He’s also Twanny Bronka’s appointee as president of Gozo’s Culture Council (I refuse to be drawn into a battle about oxymorons).
In that role, he has been organising meetings for participants in the Gozo carnival, and at the last such meeting, those already-angered participants were surprised by the presence of semi-retired dancer and Malta Taghna Lkoll convert Felix Busuttil, speaking along the monsignor.
They were told that this was their new ‘direttur artistiku’.
This met with a disapproving response, as did the interference of the monsignor in matters which, the carnival participants thought, do not concern him.
The following Saturday, his uncle – also a monsignor, Anton Gauci – said mass in the cathedral. During proceedings, he said into the microphone: “Post il-Monsinjuri hu fil-Katidral jaħdmu mal-merħla u mhux jorganizzaw il-Karnival.”
MORE ABOUT FABIENNE GRECH
Fabienne Grech, the ambassador to UNESCO’s unofficial consort, was until recently personal assistant to Twanny Bronka, Minister for Gozo. When the ambassador to UNESCO opened his office in the citadel, she left Twanny Bronka and went to work there instead, still on the government’s time and money.
When her friend the monsignor was still archpriest of Gozo Cathedral, she worked for him on secondment from her government job, under the ‘aid to NGOs’ scheme. Amazing, isn’t it, how people like that even manage to abuse a scheme set up by the evil gOnziPn government to provide assistance to NGOs, finding a way to use this to have a government employee dispatched to her priest-boyfriend’s office to ‘work’ for him.

This is proving to be better than fiction. I am sure the number of writers retiring to Gozo for their winter write up, can pick up some ideas here.
Can the Church in Malta and Gozo afford to have yet more priests working only part -time in the “vineyard of the Lord”?
Can the Church afford to have such people as priests ?
What a mess.
Is Joseph trying to gain some credibility about his State-Church relations while at the same time engineering a Law granting marriage rights to same sex couples?
The whole freaking barrel of apples is rotten. What a mess.
If the monsignor had any clue about carnival, its setup, work involved, etc, it would have been fine. But unfortunately he is only there biex isahhan is-siggu.
To make matters worse he appointed Felix Busuttil, director of Yada Dance Company as artistic director. Felix knows a thing or two about dancing but certainly not about Carnival. Is he there for this own personal interests? Let’s not be negative.
They are so clueless that they have come up with one common theme for participating dance companies. Traditionally companies were left at liberty to choose their own theme, costume, dance and music. From 2014 onwards if they want to participate in the Saturday Carnival parade they must all follow one central theme which Felix Busuttil has decided.
As far as I know all the dance companies have pulled out. They want nothing to do with this. Felic is not worried as I’m pretty sure his own Yada Company will have free run of carnival performances. Of course, they (Yada) will be handsomely compensated. A 60,000 Euro budget has been set aside for the Gozo Carnival. I would love to know where most of it goes.
Everything that Labour touches turns to ash.
Or into golden eggs if it’s the Malta Taghna Kollha brigade who benefits.
Labour love nothing more than a switcher with some populist clout.
Here’s another little unknown fact: Busuttil also sits on the board of the Mediterranean Conference Centre – the fact that he is one of the only companies to produce shows for a profit there doesn’t constitute a massive conflict of interest when you’re part of the Malta Taghna Lkoll team.
This goes beyond friends of friends. Indecent shameless relationships seems more apt.
Jien skandallizat. Dan veru qassis, ghax kif qed nifhem jien Ms Grech hija habiba intima tal-monsinjur. Il-Papa Frangisku ma iddejjaqx jissuspendi lill-isqof Germaniz Tebatz-van Elst. Kif il-knisja f’Malta ma titkellem xejn fuq dan.
What are the church authorities doing about this scandal? And most astounding of all, where is the opposition?
[Daphne – They don’t speak about girlfriends because “it’s a personal attack”. So if a monsignor with a long-time female consort is made the government of Malta’s ambassador to UNESCO, we’re supposed not to say anything because it might be construed as an attack on a priest and his personal life. Go figure. Alien culture and all that.]
So as to be able to enjoy himself on board the gravy-train, Monsignor Vella Gauci voted for same-sex marriage. Truly a man of principle.
Xelta vera propja u f’ posta. Insejna l-fjask li ghamel Felix meta kien Direttur Artistiku fil-ftuh ta’ xi Olipijadi f’ Malta fi zmien il-Ministru Mugliett.
Veru hareg ta’ “king”, bl-irkiekel tac-cumbini fuq l-irjus tan-nies, u kullhadd jitnejjek bina, qisna hrigna bil-partijiet genitali fuq l-irjus.
Milli jidher dawn huma nies li jerdaw dejjem, ikun min ikun hemm fil-gvern. Kieku tighd li Felix ghandu xi ideja fuq il-karnival nifhima, pero dan huwa bniedem li karnival jifhem fih meta jaghmel xi paprata bhalma ghamel recentament, meta tella “crew” ta’ zeffiena ghal xahar l-Amerika, biex jaghmlu tour ta’ zfin, u meta tela kullhadd irreallizza illi kien bela kanna minn hawn u faccata, ghax hadd ma xtara biljetti ghal dan it-tour.
