The situation is so far beyond a joke, with these idiotic, avaricious people in charge, that heaven alone knows where we will be in five years’ time

Marlene Mizzi takes a selfie

Sometimes I have to pinch myself to believe that we have gone from that to this. Here’s Marlene Mizzi, for instance, Labour’s new MEP. Not knowing what is appropriate behaviour for a sixty-year-old woman and a politician, she is heavily into uploading ‘selfies’ on Facebook.

But these things don’t come naturally to those who weren’t born into the digital age, so Mrs Mizzi occasionally faces a serious challenge, like how to photograph your reflection in the mirror admiring yourself in a new outfit (the answer: DON’T DO IT), with risible results.

This week she faced an even more serious challenge: how to show off/prove her presence at some kind of meeting by including both the descriptive banner and her face in the same shot. After an internal tussle, she came up with the perfect solution: the whole of the banner and just part of her still recognisable face.

Thrilled with the result, she popped it on Facebook with the comment:

A selfie…..and it’s lunchtime..just in case anyone is wondering why I am playing around with fb

Actually, Marlene, we’re wondering why you’re playing around with Facebook and selfies AT ALL, given your age and your position.

Qabza fil-kwalita. Oh well, I don’t suppose Glenn Bedingfield was much better.

Mrs Mizzi qisa qatt ma rat xejn, marelli.

She seems to think that she’ll make her Facebook Friends jealous.

On second thoughts, she may be right – most of them after all must be the sort to feel jealous even about something as stupid as this.

Oh, look, she is in Ethiopia.

Do you think that while she was there she went around preaching “push back” policy to would-be Ethiopian immigrants?

She was very much in favour of prime minister Joseph Muscat’s stand on push back policy back in July.

Selfie is a new word that was recently added to the dictionary.

When you see a senior citizen trying to live life to the full, you can’t help but smile.

This is the same sort of reaction you have when you go to a bar and see a 60-year-old with a cowboy hat on, doing line dancing and that sort of thing.

Or when you go to carnival and see a man dressed in his wife’s clothes.

You see, you don’t always understand the behavior or try to interpret it. You just stop at smiling because it is entertaining.

Please give the woman a break – at least this time she is not playing around with her pussy.

I saw her at the airport about to check in to business class on a Middle Eastern airline, wearing tracksuit trousers, a jumper and what her Facebook friends call “slipper”.

She saves her leopardskin for her appearances on Super One TV.
