Evarist Sammut comments beneath the report:

Unfortunately I see only one way out if this mess; immediate and unequivocal suspension of this proposed scheme. The President should consider NOT signing this law.

The President is too busy protecting his own interests and those of his son, his wife, and her sisters.

  2. Jozef says:

‘A rogue state and tax haven, parasites, debt ridden’

Muscat just broke his new toy.

I think it’s imperative the PN set out on a diplomatic campaign immediately.

Can you paste the article text into a blog post? It’s still premium content for overseas readers, it seems.

[Daphne – No, that would lack esprit de corps, a very Labour thing to do.]

      Highlights of the article?

      • H.P. Baxxter says:

That Karmenu Vella denied everything. He even had the effrontery to claim that “not everything that is printed is true.”

He says Malta’s reputation hasn’t been dented at all.

        What a charming minister.

      • ciccio says:

Not everything that the media says is true, but everything the Labour government says is true.

  4. The Mole says:

“But not all reactions were negative. Irish talk show host Eric Isherwood tweeted: “We gave out 36,000 [new citizenships] this year for free; imagine if we took a leaf out of Malta (sic) book how much it would bring in revenues.”

    Ah…sarcasm! Still beyond ToM’s grasp.

  5. Antoine Vella says:

Not being familiar with the details of Maltese politics, all international media are assuming that Malta intends to sell passports to earn some funds “because it is bankrupt”.

They have no idea that Joseph Muscat wants – needs – to repay those who helped him gain power. And this is much more disturbing, of course.

  6. Manuel says:

Times of Malta is still not giving due importance to this Shame-Scheme as it ought to be doing. At least, when compared with the coverage it gave to the Arlogg tal-Ministru, this is just a trickle.

We know what international media are saying; we can read and search. What’s important here is Times of Malta’s own stand.

  7. Salvu says:

@Antoine : You majtezwel correct your quotation “because Labour is bankrupt”

Let’s face it: Labour was bankrupt before Joseph Muscat made his agreement and commitments with China in 2010. Now if he is forced not to deliver this law, Labour is bankrupt “wahda w sew”.

  8. Tracy says:

Unfortunately I’m no longer proud to say I’m Maltese.

  9. Rumplestiltskin says:

Government might not now be financially bankrupt but, in my view, it is certainly so morally.
