Is there anybody now in charge who isn’t either a corrupt liar or a crooked nutter? Or both?

Saviour Balzan

Earlier this evening on TVM: John Dalli says he believes himself to be an EU Commissioner still.

He says he wrote to the president of the EU Commission to request permission to do work for the government of Malta – because he is still an EU Commissioner.

He says that the president of the EU Commission replied, and gave him that permission.

What he did not say is that FORMER EU Commissioners, for 18 months after they leave their position – whether that was because they resigned, reached the natural end of their term in office, or were forced out – are required to request permission from the president of the EU Commission for any work they do.

The EU Commission granted Dalli permission – if we are to believe that he asked for it – not as an EU Commissioner but as an EX EU Commissioner.

How does Saviour Balzan feel about having Dalli lie to him once again, blatantly, to his face and on television? Or was he in on it?

Balzan sat there like a lemon – or rather, like somebody sucking on one – and just took it. Did he cut in with ‘Oh, so you ask Barroso for permission to do this now, but did you ask Barroso for permission to spend hours on the Labour Party’s TV station, promoting Sargas and ripping the prime minister to shreds? And did you ask Barroso for permission when you slid out of an EU Council meeting in Cyprus and flew to the Bahamas and back again in a day and a half, to work for charity?”

Did Saviour hell. And then he’d like us to believe that he’s Malta’s tormentor of the corrupt. Seeing him crawl about at Dalli’s crooked feet made my evening. Dalli yanks and Saviour yelps ‘Sah!’ Oh sorry, that should be ‘Serrr’.

If in his mind he is still an EU Commissioner, he is still serving his “prison sentence”. Serves him well.

Tonio Portughese et al should be awarded Gieh ir-Repubblika for removing this programme giving us Saviour Balzan in its stead. Massive!

  2. botom says:

This is getting worse. So when John Dalli was a Commissioner he used to say that he is serving a prison sentence.. Now that he is expelled he wants to go back in jail.

  3. Sour Saviour says:

Those who the gods wish to destroy, they first drive mad. And that applies to both of those two.

The big mystery is why Dalli is so crazy about money. It’s not like he ever seems to enjoy spending any.

And there you have it. In just a few months. There must be some kind of record here.

It seems that much of the electorate has fallen victim to several big lies.

  9. Rahal says:

Too often corrupt politicians with low moral values are voted into positions of trust and then empowered to manage and execute massive portfolio budgets. Its like an explosive combination so the ensueng mess is inevitable.

Malta has also seen the deployment of renowned and successfl Maltese industrialists and businessmen in key parastatal positions over the past 45 years. The overriding concern and suspicion however is that most have abused of their office and made unethical personal gain.

This web has taken years to weave and I am afraid will take many more to take apart, strand after strand, while the spider tucks itself safely away.

Dalli the ‘consultant’ has once more told a half truth, if not an outright lie. Not being asked ‘the’ question is no justification for not revealing what the terms are for a former EU Commissioner who either voluntarily resigned or was given half an hour to clear his desk and leave.

  11. Rumplestiltskin says:

We should have a competition about what Barroso could have said when he received Dalli’s request to prepare the report on Mater Dei (ghax ried jaghmel xi haga ghall-pajjiz.)

How corrupt and stupid. Definition of stupid: Knowing the truth, seeing the truth, but still believing the lies.

  13. ciccio says:

If John Dalli is still a Commissioner, then he cannot do work other than for the Commission.

So why does he say “”A commissioner who takes up a job with anyone within 18 months of his tenure coming to an end must seek permission from the Commission. And I asked for that permission”?

Is he still a Commissioner, or did his tenure come to an end?

Now I am are really confused.

Can a journalist ask the prime minister if he had by any chance dismissed Dalli from his role of consultant but Dalli continues to say that he is the prime minister’s and the health minister’s consultant?

  14. Kukkurin says:

Saviour Balzan illustrates the distinct difference between a ‘reporter’ and a ‘journalist’. As for John Dalli, he is beyond hope of redemption and is now believing his own fantasies.

  15. Francis Saliba M.D. says:

If Dalli is still an EU Commissioner does that mean that he is still liable to be dismissed with loss of pension rights?
