More money than sense: another two Maltese make the local news in Italy

Wouldn’t it be interesting to know who these two are? The Corriere del Ticino gives no names. It says that two Maltese citizens have been caught crossing from Switzerland into Italy with two watches bought for 68,000 Swiss francs (55,448 euros) which they failed to declare.

The Guardia di Finanza smelled a rat when they saw the boxes in which those watches had come lying empty on the car’s back seat.

How thick do you have to be to do something like that? They try to smuggle Eur55,448 in watches – his ‘n’ hers Christmas presents for an illicit couple, the man of which has a stash in that country, I’m assuming, as otherwise they would have bought them at Diamonds International or Edwards Lowell – over the border by putting them on their wrists and claiming they’ve had them for some time, and they leave the empty boxes in full view on the back seat.

You’ll probably find they’re respected members of the community back home in Malta. That’s the real tragedy.

Were they a gift for someone else in Malta?

They must be the sort of people who have money but no brains.

If they were the type to listen to, or watch foreign news, they would have been aware that the Guardia di Finanzia are currently carrying out thorough investigations all over Italy, and even stopping people in luxury cars, who have to prove that their tax declarations tally with such expenditures.

Of course, being Maltese, they are used to Ministers having half a million Euros in cash at home, and others having a loan of close to million Euros whilst claiming they earn a minimum wage.

It is presumed that they will now be doing time.

I do not know how more miserable we can get.

The two were Asians from Malaysia not Maltese.
It’s “Malesi” not “Maltesi” see the link:
