Kleptocrat friends of the Muscat government: a corruption update

Radio Free Europe reports:

A corporate mogul whose business empire has won building contracts worth billions of dollars amid Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s massive construction spree is tied to the president’s family through secretive offshore companies.

The businessman, Hassan Gozal, is the director of three British Virgin Islands (B.V.I.) companies set up in 2008 in the name of the president’s daughters, according to secret documents obtained by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ).

The daughters were 19 and 23 years old at the time.

The picture shows President Aliyev of Azerbaijan with his wife, daughter Leyla who flew to Malta abusively in a state jet to be feted by President Abela, Evarist Bartolo and Mrs Muscat, and his sons. You will note that there is a marked difference between the appearance of the women and that of the men. This is not because the daughter looks like her mother who has exceptional genes for youthful beauty, while the sons look like their ugly father. It is because mother and daughter have liberally plundered the kleptocracy treasure chest for access to the world’s most renowned plastic surgeons, apparently presenting them with clip-outs of Disney princesses and Canale 5’s ageing show-girls and telling them ‘I want to look like this’. When and if President Aliyev is deposed, those two will be snapped up by Silvio Berlusconi for some morning show.

Evarist Bartolo once said something along: “In Labour, plus ca change, plus c’est la meme chose.” He was right.

And he also once said: “Delimara – ‘Only corrupt companies need apply’”

And he was right once again.

Isn’t it fascinating that it had to be him to represent the government at that ceremony with Leyla Aliyeva?

The man on the right isn’t Aliyev’s son. He’s Leyla Aliyeva’s husband, son of a Moscow property billionaire (ahem). Son-in-law Emin has rock star pretensions. Mummy Aliyeva raised EBU hackles by giving him a starring role on stage during last year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

Eminent shot a music video in New Jersey, dressed as a member of the US police force. Leyla Aliyeva starred as the chick he picked up for overspeeding through New Jersey.

Speaking of the Eurovision, have a look at this:

      Loved this bit:

“At the end, when all the songs have been performed, the contestants delivered a fairy-tale like concert, with the hosts playing the queen and the king, and the semi-finalists appearing on stage in the vivid colourful costumes. Alltogether, they delivered a brilliant show.

During the allocation of points, Khana Hasanova and Dilara Kazimova proceeded directly in the final. The third finalist should have been chosen by the jury. They spoke once more their pros and cons and their opinions, and gave Erkin Osmanli the third ticket to the Azerbaijani final.”

Why is it that I get a feeling that Erkin Osmanli already has a ticked to Copenhagen?

The Azeri national final for the 2014 contest is on 2 March. Here are the three finalists:

      – Dilara Kazimova “Hometown glory”
