    Because Wenzu Mintoff is…an Adonis.

  2. daffid says:

Have the PR officers appointed after the elections been trained to put their foot into it? If so the training seems to be paying off.

    • Jozef says:

No, they have a real problem with his immigration policy proposals. Pushbacks doesn’t form part of his vocabulary.

They also face one major unknown with Letta’s legacy, who put the state’s share in electronics giant ST on the market.

Renzi intends to introduce legislation to counteract all those state funded corporations which invested heavily in activities outside Italy, incentivising these to return back.

      Oops.

  3. ciccio says:

Not being one who follows Italian politics closely, I admit that I do not know much about Renzi and his leadership abilities. But what Italy seems to need right now is economic leadership and economic growth.

I am waiting anxiously to see how Renzi plans to bring about economic growth in Italy. Will he be selling EU citizenship?

    • Jozef says:

He’s talking jobs. When did you last hear Muscat mention those?

    • Aunt Hetty says:

Businessmen committing suicide have become among the regular topics discussed on the late night talk shows on the Italian TV channels, as they find it impossible to pay for very basic necessities, taxes and debts at the same time.

We in Malta are so lucky that thanks to the wise and responsible decisions of previous PN governments, Malta was not left in such a disastrous state as is Italy at present.

    • Angus Black says:

What he shouldn’t do is borrow Joseph’s road-map.

  4. Vagabond King says:

While on the subject of comparing Prime Ministers to other well known persons, does Wenzu Mintoff agree that our own Joseph Muscat is the second coming of Mussolini, in looks and in dictatorial attitude?

    • john cordina says:

Finally! So its not just me that sees the incredible similarities. That square jaw, squat form, head naturally tilting up to the side with that squint of one that needs glasses … maybe JM will one day do a few push-ups for us in his undershirt?

  5. H.P. Baxxter says:

Wenzu Mintoff has always displayed the sort of cuntitude perfected by Kevin Ellul Bonici and others. One of his Maltafly posters has resurfaced recently, and is doing the rounds on Facebook among gleeful Mintoffjani. It is a photomontage of Eddie Fenech Adami receiving a golden dildo as European ‘member’ of the Year.

And these are our opinion leaders, if you please.

But two can play that game, so here goes.

Ghad li n-nies inteligent qed ixebbhu lil Joseph Muscat ma’ Dom Mintoff…

  6. Joe Micallef says:

What the PL morons don’t realise is that if Renzi sticks to his promises, he is the antithesis of what the PL stands for.

  7. ciccio says:

Yet another insult to Matteo Renzi from his Maltese counterpart.

“Former Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta accepted to come to Malta to participate in the Economist conference being held on Thursday and Friday, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said this morning.”

    http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20140302/local/italian-pm-to-visit-malta-on-thursday.508915

What? He went to Rome to meet Renzi and he invited Letta?

    • La Redoute says:

Times of Malta first reported that Renzi was coming. Letta isn’t a surprise. This sort of conference is habitually stuffed with former PMs. The current ones usually have other things to do.

The only sitting PM at the conference will be the one who paid for it using other people’s money

Kemm hu toilet. I find it difficult to discribe such attitude with decent words. Sorry.

  9. Natalie says:

Umm.. I don’t know if Wenzu Mintoff noticed this, but he looks remarkably similar to Renzi himself.

  10. Aunt Hetty says:

Renzi has had to put up with worse observations of his future modus operandi on ”Striscia La notizia”.

One observation was that whenever Barak Obama phones up Palazzo Chigi, he thinks that he had been connected to a wrong number because there is usually a new voice at the other end of the line.

  11. Joe Fenech says:

No iced buns for Mr Bean so he had to make do with an angel cake.

  12. Jozef says:

    Yes of course, let’s compare.

A schoolteacher, she refused to follow her husband and abandon her students. Also mother of three, two boys and a girl.

  13. observer says:

One Italian newspaper recently showed a photo of young Renzi when he was a boy scout. The caption read that he was already a leader even at that stage.

It did not indicate, however, whether he then already possessed the gift of the gab he exercises so flippantly in his adulthood.

Whether he can now, or in the near future, deliver on his promises of reform, update, and stable economy has still to be seen, of course. I do not think he has measured the opposition’s capacity to undo them at the flick of a finger.

What we do know for sure is that, like Dom did in Malta back in 1947 when he back-stabbed his party leader, Dr Paul Boffa, Renzi has ousted Pier Luigi Bersani as PD Secretary and Enrico Letta as Prime Minister, almost at one go.

It would seem Italians have a soft spot for mavericks whom they regard as saviours of their fatherland. It was that way back in the last century, during the twenties with Benito and pretty much similiarly in the nineties with Silvio.

I would therefore take Wenzu Mintoff’s ‘fiducja’ with much more than just a pinch of salt.

    • La Redoute says:

The best thing about Renzi is that he’s younger than Muscat, who has now been deprived of his favourite boast even as though he looks even more middle-aged than he really is.
