Fascinating – now it’s the Beland Band of Zejtun

These rival village band club promotional videos, with writhing, twirling chicksters singing pop-rhythm praise to saints, martyrs and parish churches, are enthralling.
What a phenomenon. Has any academic written a paper about the subject? It’s wonderful. Keep sending them in.

Who is the biggest beland?
You took the words right out of my mouth
Small things amuse small minds
With a comment such as this you must be really on open-minded kind of person.
Daphne, indeed there have been academic studies about this matter. I am aware of one which took place in the 1970s. If I do remember correctly, it was published in a book.
Obviously enough since then, things have changed a lot. Whether we like it or not those anthropological manifestations are part of who we are, and to be fair they have every right in the world to exist!
They may have every right in the world to exist, but they are most certainly not part of who WE are.
Serves the Church right. It should never have allowed idolatrous celebrations in the first place.
What does the Catholic Church have to do with this? Oh for God’s sake, grow up!
You may or may not know that “religious” feasts are the exclusive domain of the Catholic Church.
When – through a misguided notion of “audience participation” – it allowed the faithful to contribute to the proceedings things quickly ran out of hand.
Committees for this and subcommittees for that – all originally under the “patronage” of the Church – started taking upon themselves more and more of the organization of the external festivities.
I try to be a faithful and practising Catholic and I tell you that such “activities” do more harm than good to the perceived image of the Church (and consequently its credibility with the populace).
Would you think that any saint would approve of the revelry (sometimes even debauchery) taking place for his or her commemorative feast?
Now this is truelly aristic and originality at its best ! And this is all done voulnter…well done beland big well done…and big good luck for your festival in the upcoming weeks !
They should have called it “boobland” not “beland”.
Mary Spiteri has found her niche after all, after being dismissed by Gensna.
I can see that there are a lot of exciting opportunities for Maltese singers.
Could you imagine if such feasts were held in the UK with alcohol involved, it would be like a battle field. At least in Malta we are civil and prudent enough to control our alcohol intake at least.
It is nice that Maltese villages have something to look forward to and celebrate. I quite miss the festas.
”At least in Malta we are civil and prudent enough to control our alcohol intake at least.”
Are we talking about the same Malta? Perhaps someone can explain to Ms/Mr Bonnici about intoxication and reckless behaviour in Malta these days.
These videos are a good teaching example for people who think that all that is involved in producing a video is pressing the record button.
This video has gained more than 15,000 views in less than a week (a record for the Maltese islands) – watch and learn, Zejtun Band, how to make a cultural, vibrating, publicity video.
Oh God, not here as well! My neighbour seems to own only one CD: full of these nauseating, unprofessionally laid lyrics to music about Banda San Filippu. She makes it a point that the whole village can hear it. I cannot stand it any longer.
Next flight out, please. I just do not belong.
How sweet to see Malta’s top pop singers united for a common cause! Respect for those few who have left and doing bars and gigging each weekend in London. This clip shows them where they would have ended up otherwise.
I believe Jeremy Boissevain addressed the situation in ‘Saints and Fireworks’.
Kif ma jisthux dawn in-nies…minhi l-kbira Beland? U just to let you know minhabba dik il-kanizzata wegghu anke bandisti.
Nisthu? Ticcajta hux qed nisthu bhalissa … nisthu nghidu li ahna miz-Zejtun habba dak il-porkerija ta’ video li ghamiltu intom.
What? No Ira Losco in the first video?

So sorry. Ippruvajt, però ma rnexxieliex inkompli – ESC at 1:28.
That much was too much. Still feeling the nausea.
The church has been trying hard to curb these idiotic habits but controlling these fools is a very hard task. Ask the poor parish priests.
Idiotic, and fools you say. Well let us see why the people of Beland and all the people that like feasts are idiotic and fools.
-Is it because they have faith in their patron saint in this case Saint Catherine?
– Is it because they manifest it in a way which is not a norm in other counties?
– Is it because they put all their free time and do not get paid to work for the band club, village decorations, fireworks, church and other small sectors which are related to village feasts?
– Is it because you believe that who is involved in these activities has no education and no strong background?
– Is it because they are proud and honoured to continue such a vibrant Maltese tradition?
The list is never ending and I can continue forever and ever. However if you think that who created this video talking specifically about Beland and that the people who support the club are fools and idiotic than I am really really sorry for you because it shows that the lack of education is not in the people that make part of Beland but people like yourself who talk in this way, since they have no clue the hard work it involves, the sacrifices and the love and passion.
Some people amaze me as whenever they think or hear the work Festa they just think about drunk people with no education and let me say it this way hamalli.
I live in London but whenever they ask me where I am from I am very very proud to say I am from Zejtun.
Who does not like the feast should not comment on them full stop but let others be. I do not like hunting but I do not judge hunters because I do not like hunting. So please consider your words before talking as they reflect more badly on yourself than on the subject you are talking about. As regarding the church for your information the band clubs and all those associated with the feast try to work as much as possible with the church so the feast would be a celebration.

Proset.
These video clips were sent in just to prove that there’s a big gap between the intelligence in Zejtun band clubs. Now let’s see what Zejtun band can offer.
Iz-Zwieten ghandhom il-Lixandrina u l-Qriema kburin bin-Nuxellina.
This is another music clip to prove Beland is always original and not copy-cats

Beland was the maiden surname of Grand Master Emanuel de Rohan-Polduc’s mother. The Rohan family was one of the most illustrious and influential in pre-revolution France. Among its members were viscounts, dukes and cardinals and they married other members of the high aristocracy, including Beland. I’m sure the grand lady would have been immensely delighted with this plebeian display of her family name in Zejtun.
Incidentally, Cardinal de Rohan was implicated in the infamous “necklace affair” which helped bring down the French monarchy.
What does Beland stand for?
Vuci wahda — Disgusting.
L-“aqwa” kantanti ta’ Malta, the Faniellos, Chiara, Olivia Lewis end up singing such songs. Veru jaghmlu minn kollox biex idawru lira u jibqghu jidru.

We are Zejtun bentt This is even better (…and by better I mean worse) than the rest. A must see. Warning, it might make you sea sick :-/
Ok never mind I see it has already been covered ;-). My mistake.
Maybe you should follow the pro pl beland music festival. the main attraction is to fund raise money for puttinu with a massive 2 weeks of events but the outcome is very very low..sponsors are very very high and bars are fully fully making loads of money. making. Rumors has it that there is a group of share holders involved by using the club investing in events and make a nice profit and share for charity and with the club to make everyone happy…..Shame
