Times of Malta, yesterday’s print edition:

“Asked about his commitments in the run-up to his formal nomination, which will be put to the vote in the European Parliament towards the end of the year, Mr (Karmenu) Vella said he would be focusing closely on EU matters to understand how things work in Brussels.”

I suggest that il-Guy should appoint Dr. Alfred Sant as his “consultant.”

Firstly, because it is quite fashionable under this government to have a “consultant.” The President of the Republic, Marilweez, is one, to the Social Policy Minister. Even the present EU Commissioner, John Dalli, is a “consultant” to the Health Minister. And Shiv Nair, China’s secret weapon in Africa – who is blacklisted by the World Bank – was (is he still?) consultant to Jo, the Prime Minister.

And secondly, because Dr. Alfred Sant “tghidx kemm hu intelligenti, u jaf sew l-affarijiet kif jahdmu fi Brassils.”

Lanqas ghadu jaf x’habat mieghu! Nominat kummissarju Ewropew u ma jafx kif isiru l-affarijiet fi Brussel!

U iva mhux xorta ghandu ftit zmien iehor biex isir midhla ta’ kif imorru l-affarijiet. L-aqwa li messu iced bun hu ukoll.

It-tajba hi li Dr. Alfred Sant huwa “kandidat Laburista idejali” ghal-“Parlament Owropow” ghax “tghidx kemm jaf kif jahdmu l-affarijiet fi Brassils.”

Allura nghid jien jekk Karmenu Vella ma ghandu l-edba ideja kif jahdmu l-affarijiet fi Brassils, ghalxiex ghazluh?

To begin with, he may ask Mizzi to tell him how many members make up the European Parliament.

Brussels will understand how Karmenu Vella worked in the past much before Karmenu understands how EU runs its business.

  5. Makjavel says:

So he doesn’t even know how things work in Brussels.

I hope he knows where Brussels is.

  6. Angus Black says:

Ten years after joining the EU and Karmenu Vella still has to “focus closely on EU matters to understand how things work in Brussels”?

And this not counting the years of anti-EU campaigns by Sant and Jo who apparently did not understand how things worked in Brussels, even if Jo’s programme on Super 1 was called “Made in Brussels”.

    Nies ta’ kalibru tassew.

John Dalli might help Karmenu Vella to understand how things work in Brussels.

Meritocracy means a country being run in tyranny covered beneath a thick line of mockery demonstrating otherwise priceless privileges.

A pseudo-reality – what a pity! The P.M. never has a vested interest or so it is made to seem to us citizens.

Those who really merited so far in this one year of P.L. haven’t “climbed de ledder” with his wife.
