Deborah Schembri, the Labour MP who set up the Anti Cyber Harassment Alliance with Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando last summer, was under the Labour Party’s tent last night, applauding Cyrus Engerer, who has been handed a two-year prison sentence for the cyber harassment of his ex lover and for using threats and blackmail against him.

My twelve year old daughter told me that they look like a couple in love and just about to kiss (she doesn’t know who Cyrus is).

Labour supporters are offended when they are told that the average PL voter tends to be less discerning than a PN one.

In this crazy, surreal episode of Maltese political life we are seeing exactly this: apparently sane Labour supporters hailing a convicted criminal who has never – not once – expressed regret for his crimes. And they are doing it purely for partisan reasons, out of a misplaced sense of ‘loyalty’ to the party.

This is truly a cult, as you have so well described it, Daphne.

Actually it looks like Cyrus wants to kiss Joseph Muscat but Joseph Muscat is pulling himself back with a jaqq smile sort of expression.

The Prime Minister has lost all sense of decorum.

    It’s not a yaqq smile more of a ‘ everyone’s looking!’ smile

I happened to see part of the PM’s speech glorifying Engerer. They got a close-up of Deborah Schembri and to me it was the face of a woman who has been brainwashed.

It looked to me very much how people following a religious cult would be brainwashed. A previous post on how Labour operates like a religious movement is very telling.

Can somebody who is a friend to Ms. Schembri please talk to her and tell her to wake up. She needs to be reminded that what is wrong can never be made right simply because the Leader says so.

Does she, or anyone who was present yesterday, understand the implications of applauding someone who have been convicted of a criminal offence?

The mind boggles! Are we really that ineffectually educated as a nation? Does the prime minister’s reaction represent that of 56% of the voting, allegedly thinking, population? Is this what our educational system has produced?

    Tragic.

  10. wondering says:

What is their cult, a new form of scientology? The PN should put emphasis on this cult aspect to rattle their religious voters.

How can Deborah Schembri reconcile her activism against cyber bullying with her applauding someone convicted of related crimes. Orwellian ‘doublethink’ at its worst.
