Even though Marlene Farrugia clearly feels unable – or that she shouldn’t – be specific in naming names, her piece in The Malta Independent today is right on the money.

Simple. She’s telling us to vote PN.
That’s exactly how I read it. She just stopped short of spelling it out loud.
Jiena naħseb li Joseph Muscat huwa “schemer” mill-kbar. Diġa għandu il-ħaruf tas-sagrifiċċju jekk in-nies tiegħu jaħsbu li tilfu ħafna voti fl-elezzjoni li ġejja…Cyrus.

Hats off to her.
An exceptionally honest analysis. Never thought to see it, not simply from a Labour MP, but from one who still militates within the Party. Indeed courage to be admired. Did someone mention ‘suldati ta’ l-azzar’?
Well done, Marlene Farrugia.
What azzar? That article is pure titanium.
Her not naming names means that she then doesn’t have to temper remarks about Muscat/Labour, with token praise for other ‘positive’ steps taken by the government, while throwing in criticism of the previous administration.
Ms. Farrugia is right on the button in this piece.
The only way to show you didn’t vote is not to turn up. Otherwise they will think you voted for them.

The drivel Spiteri writes plumbed new depths today – and that’s saying something.
Not a great fan of Marlene Farrugia, but you got to give her credit for her article. She was spot on.
If only her article contained less innuendo, it would have added more clarity to whatever she is alluding. As it stands we just have to guess to whom she is referring.
Guess? She could only be referring to Joseph Muscat or Simon Busuttil. Pick one.
Agree. Just spit it out. Most tfal tal-azzar would think her piece was in favour of PL, if they could read it in the first place.
It takes commitment to be really daring.
Clarity is in simplicity, not guesswork.

There will be more respect from all sides for clarity of position. More power in that too, unless you are simply putting other pawns in place.
We can’t afford any more playing with words, simply because we’re sick of it.
Great piece, Marlene! I always thought it would be a matter of weeks to months before the Joseph Muscat’s polished veneer starts to crack.
She is right – people have to go out and vote. This opportunity matters for Malta as much as for Europe.
I think she needs to admit her mistake in believing Joseph could deliver. Then I might givee her some credit.
I admire her courage for putting her name to this very forceful piece even though it is unlikely that she wrote it herself.
I salute her nonetheless.

Sometimes I wonder why on Earth she was part of the Labour Party at all.
What she has just said is what the PN have been saying from the day such a scenario was real in Malta way back in the 70s and 80s and also painted a picture of what she feels is to come. Sadly, she was part of the machine, whether she likes it or not, that brought this upon us in the first place.
Had she been a Nationalist candidate that sort of article would have been met with “Stop living in the past. Look to the future” nonsense, and anyone who stood by such an article would have been called brainwashed.
Malta has a serious weakness, and it has to be dealt with once and for all, something that could have been done last election but wasn’t.
I am afraid I think she’s too late. The ignorant have been roused by the very techniques she has described.
Does she know that the first step to eradicating this problem is to speak out against Mintoff and Lorry Sant? Does she understand that the very presence of their statues is an affront to the democracy and principles she has just told us about, and that are yet again under threat?
Why is it that people only speak out against the PL once they realise that the dangerous methods they use have worked against them, even though they were more than present at the times when they were being implemented and designed.
Marlene, this should have come a long time ago.
She’s being too subtle for the average Maltese stooge.
