Oh my, it’s a pincer movement

I’ve made myself a large pot of coffee to celebrate. The Malta Independent has just overtaken Malta Today on Alexa’s ranking of top sites (three cheers for that), and this site is coming up close behind.
It’s like in the pantomime: “SHE’S RIGHT BEHIND YOU!”
Poor Saviour Balzan. All that investment in the recent redesign and restructuring of the Malta Today site, and the net result is that he’s almost immediately overtaken by the newspaper he hates (and where he used to work) and has a one-woman home-made blog with no staff or newsroom snapping at his heels.

Keep going, Daphne.
Well, at least you can both meet at Malta Park for a chat and a cuddle.
[Daphne – Sad to say, Kevin, I never had the slightest bit of interest in Saviour Balzan and I am hardly going to have a Damascene conversion more than three decades later. He was always an extremely unattractive man in every way, even when we were young.]
Saviour Balzan is now like a sandwich, with The Malta Independent above and Daphne coming up from below.
Where is that big Reporter toaster?
The truth of the matter is that The Malta Independent ranking has climbed up ever since you have started posting interesting links here.
I, for one, never used to go on their site. Keep it up, Malta Independent.
Conversely, thumbs down to Times of Malta.
It’s also been since they’ve updated their site. When you visited their old site, it felt like you’d stepped back into 2003.
The Times of Malta is just declining gradually – http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/timesofmalta.com
Times of Malta started charging, hence the decline in popularity.
It’s not the charging that got to me, as much as the fact that it felt as though I was reading an English version of L-Orizzont during the general election campaign.
Fantastic to read that Daphne is now more popular in Malta than Ebay!
Even better, you don’t need a credit card to enjoy the privilege of reading it! Well done, Daphne and keep up the incredibly valuable work that you do here.
As a service to Malta your website is priceless – it is nothing less than a safeguard for democracy that I fear the present government threatens to subvert.
If the Announcements (obituaries etc.) ever move from Times of Malta to The Malta Independent, Times of Malta’s ranking would drop quite a few places.
Hi Daphne, if you could – in any way – upgrade your blog so that in some way we could be alerted to replies to messages we write on your blog, your site would be even more popular. Set up a fund, if need be. Prosit.
Totally agree
Actually no fund is needed … nowadays one can easily install Disqus on any website.
Congratulations, Daphne.
Good and honest work pay off. Well done.
MaltaStarToday has been defending Cyrus Engerer – with its reports laced with pro-Cyrus comments – even after Saviour Balzan took him to the cleaners on the pro-hunting signatures Cyrus collected.
It’s obvious now that Muscat has his daily online newspaper in English and it’s certainly not MaltaStar but MaltaToday, defending the indefensible before the 24th May elections.
The Malta Independent reaallyy needs a facelift though..
I remember a few years ago, when MaltaToday picked up in its readership, Saviour Balzan boasting that he killed The Malta Independent. I thought it was pure competition, and never thought that it was pure hate or vindictiveness.
I saw a photo of Choppy the other day and I thought:
Would Saviour meet his eyes if he were alive today?
Would he be proud of the way he’s developed?
All the details that have been nagging at him, why has he suppressed them?
Is it really worth it? Isn’t life more precious?
But then his starting points were what they were.
Some developments are inevitable, though escapable, if intervention is timely and perceptive enough.
No use blaming others for one’s own limitations – or excesses.
The Malta Independent have a customised commentary board system with a slow email sending system. A delayed comment loses its punch.
Well done, Daphne.
You surely deserve the good ranking, because you work hard for it and we owe you as it is thanks to you that we get to know some news that others do not even dare to print.
Well done.
[Daphne – Thank you, Mr Loporto. Much appreciated.]
Same here
I am really glad that your website is one of the most visited in Malta. Hard work always pays. Well done. Well done indeed.
Coffee? I think champagne is in order
The Malta Independent should invest some money in relaunching a 2014 website, because it will push them further up.
Prosit imma xorta ma nahmilx nara timesofmalta.com fil-hames posizzjoni.
Well done Daphne keep it up, you deserve it. If it wasn’t you who keep us inform of what’s going on , we want know.
Love your blog.
Well done, Daphne, and thank you.
Your blog is on refresh mode every day.
Keep it up Daphne, you point out and reveal several important pieces of news which the Labour Party hopes will go unnoticed.
