Adoptions Board chairman accuses the government of “introducing adoption by same-sex couples in the most disgusting way possible – ‘surreptitiously’ is not a good enough term to use”
Ivan Grech Mintoff, who was appointed chairman of the Adoptions Board by Muscat’s government (his mother was Dom Mintoff’s sister) has spoken to Times of Malta in disgust at the way adoption by same-sex couples was sneaked through parliament in the Trojan Horse or the same-sex unions bill.
What most people don’t know is that adoption is covered by a law unto itself and is not part of the (heterosexual) Marriage Act, so introducing it into the Civil Unions bill was anomalous.
Grech Mintoff would give neither his personal views about same-sex adoption nor the official view of the Adoption Board, telling Times of Malta that he had been instructed not to speak.
He did speak, however, about the manner of its introduction, describing it as disgusting, surreptitious and saying that the Adoption Board was not consulted in any way or at any point.
“We were taken totally by surprise to see these adoptions added to civil unions,” he told Times of Malta. “I think it was introduced in the most disgusting way possible. Surreptitiously is not a good enough term to use.”

Muscat had said that the new law leaves it to the experts to decide on the matter of adoption by same-sex couples.
In other words, he shifted blame for refusing such adoptions onto a temporary board.
Effectively, he has washed his hands of all responsibility while posing as a champion of civil liberties which, apparently, don’t include the civil liberties of those he has made responsible for refusing adoption he doesn’t really approve of.
Is somebody trying to divert attention from the Cyrus debacle here? Ok, so he has no opinion on the substance of the subject, but he wants to draw us into a discussion on the method. I never liked these debates.
[Daphne – I doubt it. He’s not standing for election on the Labour ticket, but has set up his own anti-EU party to do so. In any case, a debate on how the adoption bit was introduced leads to more scrutiny of Cyrus Engerer’s influence on the prime minister, not less. Also, he did not say he has no opinion on the subject (he clearly does) but that the board has been instructed – by the government, one assumes – not to speak about it.]
‘Ang about: if this board Grech Mintoff heads has been muzzled by the government, it is clearly not independent. Is there a conflict here somewhere? Is this board constitutionally appointed?
Notice is hereby given that Ivan Grech Mintoff has been dismissed from tha Army of Soldiers of Steel
I think he should have spoken up about this earlier. Too late now.
Muscat’s LP transparency, not as it was promised to the foolish gullible electors, but how it is arrogantly suppressed in practice!
The Adoption Board not even consulted on such a burning issue as adoption by same-sex couples sneaking it in “in the most disgusting way possible” and muzzling the Adoption Board forbidding it to even speak about it.

I cannot believe it’s been missed, by me too.
Has any journalist phoned up the Minister for the Interior, and therefore responsible for the Police, Army AND Secret Service, whether a convicted criminal who hacked into somebody’s computer and stole data, is going to be retained as a consultant?
Surely, SURELY there is some law that prevents it!
Interesting article by Marlene Farrugia in The Malta Independent. She is practically advising people not to vote Labour in the upcoming European Parliament elections.

It seems that some Labour Party supporters are finally waking up and realizing that Cyrus Engerer is more of a liability rather than an asset to their party.
We had Dr. Marlene Farrugia this morning in

I wonder how many more have the courage to speak up before the EP elections.
Muscat’s Sale of Passport Scheme was done surreptitiously. And yes, it is a good enough term to use because it was done secretly purposely to keep it hidden from the people.
I am surprised that a self-declared Eurosceptic has nothing to say on this Muscatian shame-scheme.
