Aditus, the human rights organisation, has just written to the prime minister (copied to the Civil Rights minister) in protest against the behaviour of the PM’s special envoy to the World Tourism Organisation

Aditus is correct to do this. It serves as a reminder not only to the individuals involved, but also to the rest of us, that there are certain standards which government and state officials must adhere to – and that when Joe Grima lays into a human rights organisation, savages any suggestion that migrants be given the vote, and makes Islamophobic jokes, it is not Joe Grima doing so but the Prime Minister’s special envoy to the World Tourism Organisation.

No government that claims to be liberal and progressive can afford to have as its special envoy a man with these views and with his savage attitude and crass vulgarity.

” From information available to us at the time of writing this letter, these posts are no longer visible on Mr. Grima’s Facebook page, yet of course you must understand that we will not be interpreting this convenient removal of the posts as either a retraction or an apology.”

With this sentence, Muscat is cornered. Let us see what his answer is going to be.

  2. FP says:

I love it when big people like Joe Grima (big not in appearance, but in the way they think of themselves) are knocked down flat by people who are truly fit for purpose.

I applaud you and your foundation, Dr Falzon.

    Your move, Mr Prime Minister.

  3. Foggy says:

Well done, Dr Falzon. The only acceptable action by the PM would be to dismiss this grossly ignorant (in all senses of the word) man who should be put out to grass as soon as possible.

Whether Mr Muscat will is, of course, another matter. It all depends on his calculations of votes gained or lost rather than any sense of ethics or commitment to really progressive policies.

  4. Alexander Ball says:

If he sacks him, I’ll never vote Labour again.

  5. Regular reader says:

Well done, Dr Falzon. The only way to deal with bullies is to stand up to them.

  6. Kevin says:

    Well done, Dr Falzon.

  7. Jien says:

Aditus should inform the World Tourism Organisation that the Maltese Prime Minister’s envoy has made the relevant statements (and supply copies), that they expect them to clarify the situation with the Maltese prime minister and that Mr Grima’s situation is untenable.
