There are laws against murder threats and calls to violence of this nature. Why is this man allowed to persist?

Now Neil Falzon, director the human rights organisation Aditus, is a ‘muqran’ who has to be savagely beaten up morning, noon and night until he learns his lesson and shuts up; immigrants should be shot on sight; one particular immigrant should have a magazine (ammunition, not print) emptied into his face; and somebody else needs to be sent to a death-camp.

These are all criminal offences. Are the police taking action?

  1. NEW LABOUR says:

Some of these people need pscychiatric help. They are really sick. They need help. This migrant issue is for those who have nothing to say and they are void.

  2. TinaB says:

Exactly. Why hasn’t Tony Attard been arrested yet?

    • vic says:

Don’t worry, Neil Falzon. Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando, protector of cyberstalked victims, will rush to protect you against the cyber assault of the prime minister’s special envoy.

  3. Joe Fenech says:

    This man is a psycho.

    • moi says:

It must be a fake profile. It was set up only seven months ago, and has only a handful of ‘real people’ as ‘friends’. The more people report it as being so, the better.

      https://www.facebook.com/tattard3?ref=ts&fref=ts

      • Not Sandy:P says:

It isn’t fake. The apparently fake names are usually nicknames chosen by the inadequate to reflect their grandiose ideas of themselves, usually after their real accounts are shut down because of their offensive behaviour online.

Why would anyone call himself Li Slow Casha Mula, for heaven’s sake?

      • Joe Fenech says:

Fake profile, but real person behind it. It is for the police to act if they are ever to be taken seriously.

  4. Joe Fenech says:

    See also his misogynist jokes.

  5. Betty says:

This Tony Attard is another one of a lousy bunch of exhibitionist idiots who believe that having a fast car, can handle a gun like several fools serving in the Maltese Police or Forces or forming part of some imaginary elite fascist category, makes him entitled to preserve the values that are akin to those of the bully boys of the Mintoff/Sant/Grima years.

Attard’s comments besides being criminal are ignorant, hateful and a disgrace to us Maltese who have learnt and even fought for our sound values of civility. He probably imagines himself trotting around Malta with boots and his Lowell stick bossing and ordering how things should be done.

I would love to see Neil Falzon lecturing these fools on what civility and justice is all about, but probably fools like Attard and his like will never be able to educate themselves in strong democratic values.

Unfortunately our politicians’ discourse breeds more ignorance.

  6. Manuel says:

It’s amazing how going through the profiles of these sub-literate people, you come across in their ‘Likes’ either Joseph Muscat or the Partit Laburista. It’s a skip that attracts a lot of rubbish; and it’s full to the brim.

  7. CIS says:

What scum. Thanks to Facebook we can see these things openly.

  8. etil says:

Il-blog ta’ Daphne taghtihom f’ghajnhom! Dawn il-hnziriet li qed jinkitbu mumha xejn ghalihom. Qatta injuranti.

Veru morna l-bahar, addio valuri, principji ecc. L-aqwa li ghandha l-flus fil-but.

  9. Manuel says:

And he has no photos of himself. He shares photos of cars and dogs, Hitler, hate material etc. but not his own photo. In all probability he is a sad, ugly guy who hates his own face. No wonder he hates other humans who are different from him.

I just reported him to Facebook.

    • Not Sandy:P says:

Photos of Hitler and references to Nazism, including fascist symbols and slogans (S.H., 14/88, H.H., etc.) are usually removed immediately. Complaints are logged. If Facebook logs several offences, the offender’s Facebook account is closed.

      • Chris M says:

I don’t think a photo of Hitler is illegal.

[Daphne – Who said it is? It’s the shooting and assault and threatening comments I’m talking about. The rest is there for context.]

      • Chris M says:

@Daphne – I am against shooting them etc and those comments only serve to put a bad light on a very valid cause but something needs to be done.

[Daphne – I should hope you are against it. Do you even have to spell that out? Shooting people is murder or attempted murder. The law and morality do not differentiate between their skin colour or their immigrant/citizen status.]

I my opinion there is nothing wrong with stopping them, giving them fuel, food and supplies and any medical attention they may require and turning them back towards the direction they came from.

[Daphne – Your opinion is irrelevant. It is the law which counts, and not your opinion or mine. The law says that you cannot do that. And so it is. That’s why people are escaping from their home countries to Europe: because in Europe, there is the rule of law and European countries are signatories to a convention on human rights. If your opinion is implemented, it would make Malta no better than the places from which these people are fleeing, including Libya.]

Do it once, twice, three times, maybe more but eventually they will get the message and the numbers of those risking their lives will dwindle as it won’t be worth the risk knowing it is all in vain.

      • Not Sandy:P says:

Try the following experiment, Chris M.

Upload on your Facebook a photo of Hitler, a photo or graphic of a swastika, a picture of a Hitler rally, and a string of Nazi slogans. Add a couple of photos of your King Charles spaniels. Then log on the next day to see which pictures are still there.

Facebook bans hate speech. That is exactly what Hitler stands for.

      • La Redoute says:

        @Chris M

You are incredibly naive if you believe, in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary, that anyone fleeing war, persecution of desperate poverty will be put off by being turned back.

No one who has walked for over a year through hostile and inhospitable territory is going to slink back because they are turned away at the last hurdle.

  10. C Borg says:

Being a racist just shows how ignorant you really are.

Just as you can’t choose your mother and father, you cannot choose the colour of your skin (Michael Jackaon excluded).

I think a fitting punishment for this chap would be to paint him black for a week and make him live in Marsa or Hal Far among the people he despises.

  11. Not Sandy:P says:

Anyone who sees this sort of thing on Facebook should take a screenshot and then report the post, photo, comment or status update to Facebook.

Posts of this sort are not always removed, mainly because Facebook’s reviewers lack the necessary context to understand the significance of a post seen in isolation. However, many offensive posts have been remove and offenders’ accounts have been shut down as a result.

It doesn’t change their views, but it deprives them of one of their means of spreading their hate creed.

  12. Kevin says:

Both PN and MLP should issue statements condemning specific people like this Attard man mentioned above. The Police must investigate this. Muscat must put a stop to it by exorcising all these nasty racist elements from within Labour ranks.

We are going down a bad route here. Soon we will start seeing more violent hate crimes perpetuated from both sides. Addio Malta

  13. Not Sandy:P says:

This is Tony Attard’s Facebook account https://www.facebook.com/tattard3

He posts his most vicious comments in racist groups run by Charles Sammut on behalf of VivaMalta, the paheric brand name of Norman Lowell’s fan club of chippy troglodytes, chest waxers and losers.

  14. M. says:

The ex-Malta Labour Party secretary-general tat-Tonna taz-zejt, now President of Malta, comparing multiculturalism to baking potatoes. Ahjar ma’ nghid xejn.

““Many people in Maltese society have not yet accepted multiculturalism. We are not ready. This would be like deciding to bake a dish of potatoes and then eating them before they are cooked,” she said.”

    http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20140616/local/president-migrants-voting-idea-jumps-the-gun.523576

    • observer says:

And how the heck, may I ask, can she pontificate on multiculturalism? Does she know what that implies in the wider world beyond her kitchen?

  15. Manuel says:

And he calls Norman Vella ‘pastas’. Incredible.

  16. Painter says:

“YOUR PLACE MR IS IN BIRKINEAU”

And his place is clearly in Mount Carmel Hospital. This man is one of those sad sods who spends all his free time spouting racist and hateful crap on Facebook instead of looking for ways to improve himself socially and psychologically to be more approachable by others.

Judging by his acknowledgement of Birkineau, he is not a Holocaust denier, although it is worse that he thinks the Holocaust was a good thing.

But look at the bright side, they do all this publicly on Facebook so people can know what they really are. No one could know about the sick mentality of these people in the days before the internet. I am not that close to my cousins but I discovered that one of them is an extreme racist and a far-right idiot thanks to Facebook.

As for the police taking action, I don’t think they can take direct action because of free speech and all, but I agree that this guy should be put on a list of some sort.

And it looks like he discovered this blog post. Here he is:

    https://www.facebook.com/tattard3?fref=ts

    • Not Sandy:P says:

You’re making the mistake of thinking Attard is coherent. Everyone who votes for Norman Lowell thinks they’re not racist – except Tony Attard, who votes for a holocaust-denier but acknowledges the existence of a Nazi death camp.

      • C Borg says:

You are absolutely correct that Tony Attard is totally incoherent, however being a holocaust denier and a racist are two completely different things.

      • Not Sandy:P says:

I am aware of the false distinction. Tony Attard is racist and votes for a holocaust-denier. I have no doubt his views on Jews would be made known were he aware that there are Jewish people living among us.

  17. Kevin says:

And this is how Muscat uses the President to respond: http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20140616/local/president-migrants-voting-idea-jumps-the-gun.523576.

It is shameful that integration of immigrants is piecemeal while we give other minorities full rights. So being gay is a minority and you get equal rights (and rightly so) but being black and African is not being a member of an ethnic minority.

I give up on ever making any sense out of my own culture.

    • Jozef says:

Yes, there was the great leader, wilfully and blatantly going against 80% of public opinion to introduce legislation on a matter of ‘principle’.

Because ‘real’ leaders don’t sit on the fence, he said.

The problem he has is immigration cannot be tackled solely as the left’s anymore. In his case not when he shifted to extremes losing any link to centrist talk and abandoned all moderate talk. It’s the trap he set himself, shooting from the hip may have given him votes but also left him without any space.

It’s why spin’s out of control. Mathematical.

    • curious says:

Kevin, she’s preparing for her visit to the Vatican this month. Ma tridx taqla xi hasla papali.

  18. Joe Fenech says:

The evidence is on the web. If police fail to act, it will be another nail into the coffin of their credibility, if they ever had any. When we were young, well over 6 decades ago ago, we used to say “[il-pulizijia] tajbin biex forsi jsibu xi kelb mahrub”.

  19. RC says:

Do the Police have the right not to intervene? Or will they only wake up when human blood is spilled?

This is getting out of hand, we’re going to end up like Greece where not only do the far right thugs beat immigrants/gays/Jews with impunity but journalists are afraid to be seen filming them.

Half the Police voted for the Golden Dawn neo-Nazis. NOW that Greek people and not just immigrants are getting killed, government realized there is a problem.

And the same will happen here. Identify and get rid of the fascist elements in the police/army and prosecute those who promote violence. Before it’s too late.

  20. C Borg says:

You know, most governments employ people to go online and stir up the wrong sort of debate and to misdirect the gullible public. They call them “trolls”.

I wonder if we have any in Malta or if they are even needed with people like this.

  21. Ian says:

And Dear Leader Joseph just helps fan these racist sentiments by saying the things he does.

This rabid racism, latent in most Maltese, was kept somewhat dormant under Gonzi, who always said the right things regarding immigration, and definitely never threatened any push-backs.

With ‘Jo’ they feel they can let rip all they like with impunity. After having uploaded this guy’s stupid posts here, the police will take notice, but I doubt any action will be taken because I fear many of them are on the same page here.

  22. It could be that this is another delicate matter that renders the Commissioner of Police silent and hesitant to take any action.

  23. silvio farrugia says:

you do gooders fucked Europe…soon they will tell US what to do and what religion to have

[Daphne – Europe is not in the least bit f**ked. That’s why so many people are prepared to risk death to come and live here.]

    • FP says:

Are you implying that you wouldn’t oppose them staying here if they held the same religious beliefs as yours?

  24. Not Sandy:P says:

Tony Attard’s Facebook has been closed.
