A crying shame

Joseph Muscat John Dalli

I quote from Times of Malta:

Dr Kessler said that some days later, Police Commissioner Rizzo phoned him to say he intended to seek the indictment of Mr Dalli in the framework of the same investigation.

“However, in line with Maltese law, such an indictment could only occur in the presence of the person to be arraigned. Since Mr Dalli was not present in Malta at the time, his indictment had to wait for his return.”

“Later on, I learnt that after the Maltese legislative elections, and a few days after the return of Mr Dalli to Malta, the Prime Minister of Malta replaced Mr Rizzo with Mr Peter Paul Zammit as new Commissioner of Police on 12th April 2013. I also learnt that the two investigators Mr Cassar and Mr Gafa, which had participated in the investigations initiated by the Maltese police, had been replaced.

“On 7th June, 2013, Mr Peter Paul Zammit appeared on television and announced that there was not sufficient evidence to pursue criminal charges against Mr Dalli. His statement led the media and the political circles, both in Malta and in Brussels, to believe that the case against Mr Dalli had been dismissed.

“On 17th June 2013 and again on 5th July 2013 I wrote to Mr Zammit enquiring about the status of the Maltese investigation. Eventually on 7th August, Mr Zammit replied that the investigation had not been closed,” Dr Kessler said.

“On three separate occasions (on 22nd October 2013, 31st March 2014 and 6th May 2014) Olaf requested Mr Peter Paul Zammit to collaborate on a new Olaf investigation concerning Mr Dalli. To this date, and despite the reminders, Olaf has not received any answer by Mr Zammit, although Malta is required by law to cooperate and supply the information required by Olaf.

“On 19th June 2014, a source known to me informed me that during a meeting which took place on the same day in Brussels, Mr Dalli asked him to convey to me the message not to go to Malta, because I might be arrested there.”

The reins of power in Malta are in the hands of ‘pimps, thieves and scoundrels’. To me, they are no more than a bunch of bums. The fact that this cabal has the vehement support of the majority of the Malta electorate is a sad reflection on Maltese society in my opinion.

“A new investigation”. No prize for guessing what it’s all about.

  3. Chicken says:

    Own up, Dalli.

  4. Calculator says:

In other words, Dalli doesn’t have the balls, pardon my French, to confront Dr Kessler unless he thinks he has an unfair advantage by doing it in his little fiefdom.

  5. White coat says:

If this story were to occur in another EU member country the PM would already have resigned and put under investigation together with the police commissioner and others.

I just realized that I now do not need to worry about updating my cv or professional portfolio these days. When the need arises I just need to go to the Police Headquarters in Floriana and hey presto, for a measly sum, ask for my police conduct. Unfortunately mine would fail to get me any significant position in this second Republic because it is bare of achievements worth of note on that particular document.

    Eureka!

Not only ‘the plot thickens’ but the waters get (or, better, are made to get) murkier.

As the saying goes in Italian “il diavolo pesca nelle acque torbide”

May I ask ‘Cui bonum’ – to whose benefit?

Time will tell – nothing shall eventually remain uncovered.

  8. Freedom5 says:

Parliament yesterday: Busuttil calls the government a banana republic for not cooperating with OLAF. When Minister Mallia then takes the floor regarding the Opposition motion re the Ombudsman, Busuttil then walks out of the chamber “to attend to other business”. Incredible. Would Fenech Adami or Gonzi have done something like that?

Freedom 5, when a parliamentary committee was discussing a motion raised by Dr Muscat against Dr Busuttil the latter went for a short trip to Milan to watch his favourite football team.

  9. Mandy says:

An (ex-)EU Commissioner calling the Leader of the Opposition of his own country ‘Dr BS’ (Doctor Bullshit). How utterly crass! Breeding will always out.

“Mr Dalli accused Dr Busuttil of dishonesty and referred to him as “Dr BS.”” (http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20140703/local/dalli-in-strongly-worded-reaction-to-busuttils-comments-does-not-know-of-olaf-enquiries.526072)

  10. Maria says:

In my opinion the Maltese Police took Dottor Giovanni Kessler for a ride.Former Commissioner John Rizzo should have never allowed Dalli to leave the island in the first place.

  11. Manuel says:

John Dalli BA has taken to referring to the Opposition leader as Dr BS.

Dishonesty at its best. Why doesn’t he tell us about his 24-hour visit to the Bahamas while he was suppose to be representing the EU in Cyprus? He will not. If he does, it will be like crap hitting the fan. And then the true BS is revealed.

  12. Joseph Ellul-Grech says:

It is very strange the way this has developed. Why would Dr Kessler be arrested if he set foot in Malta? It is John Dalli that should be arrested and investigated for all the alleged corruption he was involved in during his time as a politician.

I have written to the police commissioner three times asking for a proper and impartial investigation into the false and malicious accusations that John Dalli brought against me in November 1999. The police commissioner failed to investigate and find out who was responsible for sending those 20, 000 anonymous letters claiming to defame him.

Early in their investigations the police had confirmed that the stationery used came from parliament. I was acquitted of all the charges that Dalli brought against me. Allegedly it was John Dalli who was behind the sending of the letters in revenge because I had reported his involvement in the Daewoo scandal.

It seems to me that John Dalli is a protected sub species. It is obvious that John Dalli is full of empty threats and bulls**t. I have always said he is a corrupt politician and should be held accountable.

Is John Dalli being protected by someone in the Opposition party? Or by the board of directors of Allied Newspapers?

I think it’s time we dropped this whole omertà way of doing politics.

  13. ciccio says:

Has the Prime Minister (that’s Joseph Muscat in case you are confused which one) published the legal advice given by the Attorney General to Police Commissioner John Rizzo and to Police Commissioner Peter Paul ‘Puppet’ Zammit about the course of action on John Dalli?

    Still waiting.
