Not sure about the white-collared bustards, but the white-bellied bustard is a sub-Saharan African variety. They are tawny brown coloured from the breast upwards, but have a white belly.
The white-collared species is probably a variety of the Carribean, maybe from the Bahamas.
It is possible that the white-collared species moved into Africa and got its collar dirty with philanthropic work.
Poor bustard having its name linked to a Great Bustard like J. DalliBA. There is only one Great Bustard in Malta and come October he will be on the verge of extinction.
