We are going to become an economic colony of China, just like a Third World African state

Published: July 3, 2014 at 10:13am

And the tragic thing is that while so much fuss was made about a home-made clock and a Swiss bank account inherited from a parent in the previous government, nobody will ever know for certain if there are pay-outs on all these deals, and if there are, who got them, are they politicians and members of the government, and how much.

I rather suspect that it isn’t only Shiv Nair who is a whole lot richer now.

The big news this morning? The prime minister announced at a business breakfast organised by The Malta Independent that next week, during a visit to China, he will be signing a five-year agreement with that country which “will cover most aspects of Malta’s economy”.

China has taken us over with the same consummate ease that it has Third World African states under corrupt dictatorship.

Another ‘surprise’ and ‘positve news’ item. We should all be thrilled.

‘He said the agreement has been in the making for the last year and will include investments and strategic partnership.’ The Times

For the last ‘year’. Sure! Is a ‘year’ covering more than 365 days nowadays?

“Fielding questions, Dr Muscat said the MoU with China is “the way to go, but we will not put our eggs in one basket. It is not just about China, although they take decisions astonishingly fast.”

How insulting. That was the real roadmap. Kemm hasibna fidli Joseph Muscat.

This ‘big news’ announcement which we are now becoming accustomed to now could be either of two things:

A diversionary way to the ‘Plug and abandon’ decison of the oil well? or

a rethink from the April announcement of the 2c decrease in the price of petrol.

Wait for another ‘big news’ announcement soon.

  4. Manuel says:

Next week? My gut feeling tells me that he had already signed this ‘memorandum of understanding’ way back in April 2010 during his visit to his beloved China.

Times of Malta and Malta Today should start asking the right questions.

Labour always gets richer when in government and its representatives get fat rich every time.

  5. La Redoute says:

Muscat thinks this is a coup and a boast. He’s impressed that Chinese investors are impressed by Malta’s potential.

It’s not Malta’s potential that impresses Chinese investors. It’s the potential gain to themselves and the ease with which they can achieve it with Muscat in government.

You can take the Burmarrad reporter out of Super One but you can’t take the Super One mentality out of the Burmarrad reporter.

    Jahasra Malta.

The Nationalist Government set the bar with policies and standards for Malta by joining the European Union, whilst the Labour Government is lowering the bar to no standards and policies by joining China. Qabza fil-kwalita!

We were supposed to become the best in Europe but we’re really just becoming a corrupt island like those in the Caribbean. The link below explains where else China is doing business.

Għax issa l-Ewropa kollha saret ‘leminija’ u mperjalista.

Issa li l-Ewropa kollha saret ta’ Kajjin induru lejn pajjiżi oħra barra l-Ewropa, li huma ‘ta’ Abel’ bħalma hi ic-Cina.

X’jimporta li c-Ċina hi komunista. Ir-Rumanija ta’ Ceaucescu (fl-Ewropa ta’ Abel) mhux komunista wkoll kienet?

X’sar minnu n-New Labour? Illum għandna ‘Moviment’ li bil-mod il-mod qed ikaxkarna lejn il-politika Mintoffjana. U mhux fir-relazzjonijiet internazzjonali biss.

An agreement with China which “will cover most aspects of Malta’s economy” sounds very ominous indeed.

And they have the gall to talk against colonial legacy of the British and with pride about ‘il-Ħelsien’ on the anniversary of our ‘independence’. Well, I say give me the British over the Chinese any day.

I recently read this brilliant answer to the question ‘Can a rich country buy a poor country?’ on Quora. It refers to the Indian and Chinese “business ventures” in Africa, however it’s easy to draw similarities in this case.

How does he know it’s a blockbuster? It hasn’t even been filmed yet. It’s the box office that makes a block-buster, not the actors.

One hopes Minister Joe Mizzi has an explanation.

    • Jozef says:

Have you seen Konrad’s grand design for Enemalta, Ciccio?

      • ciccio says:

No, where was it? Unless you are referring to the deal announced in March – I had analysed that in detail here.

      • Jozef says:

        Yesterday’s was rather different.

So Enemalta becomes a plc, as it’s sliced into all the pieces possible.

        How does that work?

  18. A Montebello says:

We won’t be told the details of the five-year deal with China because of ‘national security’.

  19. Kevin says:

Perhaps Mrs Konrad Mizzi is really getting two pay cheques, one from the Maltese government and one from her original masters, the Chinese.
