Konrad Mizzi has disappeared. And so has the prime minister.

And the prime minister has disappeared too, off on holiday as predicted by this website some days ago through the rescheduling of the August Moon Ball and the showing off on Mintoff’s grave on his birthday rather than the more proper anniversary of his death.
Remember how they had that massively over-pompous press conference complete with a wall of flags to announce a two cents reduction in the price of petrol, a piece of news that should have been given by Enemalta in a brief press release?
Then when there’s a nationwide blackout with power out in some areas for a full 18 hours, Konrad and Joseph disappear, literally vanish, and let the sods at Enemalta face the music.

2014 is apparently year of the horse?
No it should be the year – of- the- pigs- wallowing – in- the – dwindling -trough .
gas down fid-dlam
This should be the Opposition’s new chant.
From the video above no transformer in sight but control switchgear
Definitely no automatic fire suppression system, maybe they had a problem with that one too.
Ghax expansiff.
Skip stuff, the two of them.
Amateurs….f****ing amateurs and cowards
They should have done a press meeting. ..this should have been considered a national emergency
Cowards can never be found when the going gets tough.
And the mobile phone networks went down too.
But Franco’s mobile kept ringing
No compensation for Franco, then.
Davidg is correct. No transformers there, only high voltage switchgear. Where are the transformers that exploded?
That distribution center is, was, all switchgear.
Simply because a buried cable shorts shouldn’t cause the main bus bar to melt or, as seems the case here, vaporise.
Call it an absolute lack of maintenance and evident lack of investment.
There was an ongoing comprehensive replacement and upgrading programme, once. What with loads increasing every year. It’s about balancing and predicting these events.
If my car tyres are worn, I don’t expect ABS to function properly.
They’ll come back and say they inherited the problem. Liars.
Who will repair this mess and how did it happen and why?
You mean how the hell is electricity being supplied as we speak?
Candles at the ready.
http://www.independent.com.mt/articles/2014-08-14/news/enemalta-still-working-to-stabilise-electricity-grid-6205931524/
‘…Areas that were connected to the grid through cables and equipment damaged during Tuesday’s fire at the distribution centre had to be temporarily linked through other connections. This was done to provide electricity supply to all areas in the shortest time possible.
However, this emergency intervention is placing further strain on other parts of the grid in the same region. In this regard, Enemalta would like to advise its customers that there may be other localised disruptions in the areas supplied by this distribution centre….’
It would have been difficult for them to do the right thing and face the public and manage to be positive about a blackout.
They could have said that we should all be thankful for a bit of respite from noise coming from electrical appliances or respite from light pollution. They could even have said that this was the great road map to reduce electrical bills: no electricity, less consumption, smaller bills.
But then the furrow and the scowl are becoming harder and harder to control aren’t they? Me thinks they would not do great at poker.
And what about the airport.
What did that Abela Garrett girl call Austin Gatt?
Wanker fenomenali.
Perhaps Jason and Konrad should pull the same rope and hire the Electric Light Orchestra.
This would kill two birds with one stone.
Besides there’s an appropriate piece called ‘Confusion’ too.

ELO also had a track called “The lights go down”
Yippee, the gov is going to give us a compensation. Nice way to shut up PL voters from grumbling.
Konrad Mizzi just managed to add a considerable amount of debt to the corporation’s books.
So, does Shangahi Electric get a discount? They should sign in November.
Xejmonjuministru.

No entourages of ministers addressing the press today?
L-aqwa ‘the phenomenal press release’ at Castille Palace on 30th April to announce the 2 cent reduction in fuel. Not to mention the brief comment given by Mizzi as soon as he was declared ‘super minister’ of both Energy and Health at Girgenti a few months later. Way to go Mr Mizzi Lang. Very impressive indeed.
Did they have air conditioning at Castille this morning and after noon , even as Qormi residents were still gasping for breath in sweltering heat becase the power was not yet on in their locality?
He’s probably on a health holiday doing a Wayne Rooney.
Didn’t Joseph Muscat promise that “Where there is darkness, (let me sow) light” in that speech to his party faithful in which he quoted from the Prayer of Saint Francis?
He was nowhere to be seen sowing light yesterday, during the total darkness, even if it seems that in Konrad Mizzi he has met his match (excuse the pun).
A picture of how they are ruining everything
Can you imagine these geezers attempting to put a new plant, a converted BWSC to gas, gas infrastructure and the grid together for best efficiency?
Either they’ll give up, or we’ll work to fund the ruddy thing.
The best in Europe, the PM said he will make us.
Turd World, he made us.
Probably yet another mispronunciation.
At least some good came out of the power cut. My husband just said to me that I was right and he was wrong. My husband was a switcher. Better late than never.
I like the picture. It is what they all look like. “Mahruqin taghhom ilkoll.”
And phones and mobiles also went down…airport closed WTF. ..this was a national emergency. ..only communications would be by radio amateurs !
When the crap hits the fan…. Konrad and Joseph are nowhere to be seen.
Get ready for the Tanker tal-Gass! When that blows… may God forgive our nation and give us a second chance.

What do the mental health sector and Enemalta have in common? In both, the person appointed as CEO has no knowledge and experience of that sector.
In Enemalta’s case, the CEO appointed by Taghna Lkoll government has zero experience of energy production and distribution. This probably was a contributory factor to a blackout which lasted 20 hours, instead of the usual one or two hours.
In the case of the mental health sector, the disasters, or tragedies, will be less visible and more private but they will be disasters just the same. People who need the best possible care will not be getting it because the appointed CEO has no knowledge of mental health.
But the Taghna Lkoll government does not care. All he cares about are the anointed ones and that they get their ‘just’ reward.
Given the blackout scenario, how can you trust them with a gas tanker anchored inside the port?
As soon as this tanker is in place, I will kiss goodbye to anything that is in the area. No restaurants, retail outlets or markets in that vicinity.
God only knows what went on in the government during those hours of total darkness when no one could see anything. Our journalists can hardly spot a fraud if it is under a spot light or sunbathing under the scorching sun of August, let alone in total darkness.
I hope the government magicians did not ‘smuggle’ the new power station and LNG tanker – both ready assembled in China – into Delimara, hiding them behind the cliffs, ready to be unveiled by the prime minister in September 2014, six months before the deadline.
I really cannot tolerate this amateurism my longer, it was so obvious that these lot are nothing but amateurs and immature to boot..where is the sense of responsibility?
Postpone your damn holidays if you have to, that is responsibility. Acting like spoiled brats is not a good sign of professionalism for sure.
It is true that the P.M.and Konrad did not call a press conference, however under this government the top civil servant Mario (ex.GWU) Cutajar has given press conferences on his own in the government’s name.
Can my friend and ex colleague Mr Mario Cutajar call a press conference and explain what happened and were do we go from here?
In classic Labour party style:
Why don’t you see what Roman Emperor Nero did when he played his harp and recited poetry whilst Rome burned?
Why don’t you mention that Nero immediately held an inquiry that he put the blame on Christians and he had them covered in tar, crucified and set alight?
P.S. There is no need to mention that soon after Nero was being hounded to death begging that someone from his retinue would please kill him before the mob reached him.
Don’t blame the government blame CARUANA galizia
There is something not quite right in the nationwide blackout. I do not ever remember a blackout lasting more than a few hours. Why did Enemalta take so long to restore supply?
An engineer friend of mine once explained to me that when a distributor breaks down, Enemalta transfers the demand of the affected area to other distributors. Had it not be possible, he explained, blackouts would be much longer.
I can only speculate but it could be that we had an extended nationwide blackout because somebody at Enemalta messed up. After the initial blackout, he lacked the knowhow to transfer the load to other distributors to allow return to normality in the shortest time possible.
Note also that the new CEO is very much a Taghna Lkoll man. Previously, he was in the civil service meaning that his knowledge and experience of energy distribution is nil. He is also a PL activist. Could this have been the cause of such an extended blackout?
That is what you get when you appoint people with no knowledge or experience in key positions. It was a political appointment. There should be political responsibility for the blunders of a political appointee.
Spot On !
