Curtain call? The man is becoming EU Commissioner, not dying or retiring

Karmenu Vella is still in politics as an EU Commissioner. The height of John Dalli’s international fame came after a long career in Maltese politics, when he moved into Brussels-based politics, remember.
This kind of puff piece is really so pointless. If you are not going to write an honest appraisal of the man’s career in Maltese politics, just write nothing.
“His most significant lesson was one in humility” – and they use it as a pull-quote. What has everybody been drinking?

They hide their incompetence behind a vestige of humility.
We heard it (only after the election, mind you) from Varist and Muscat himself.
At least he was ‘humble’ enough to show his ignorance when it came to distinguish between soap and whisky.
Here is my take on yesterday’s events:
“From tomorrow, Karmenu Vella il-Guy starts serving a 4 years prison sentence in Brussels. But he has not been convicted and the jury is still out on whether this is the type of prison sentence he deserves. The fossil from the anti-EU Socialist governments of the 1970s and 1980s will be sitting on the new Juncker Commission. Mr. Vella, of Tunny Net fame, will be netting tuna issues as Commissioner for Fisheries, Maritime Affairs, and the Environment – policy areas where he clearly showed no competence during his grilling by the EP committees.
In his concluding speech in Parliament yesterday, where he spent the last 38 years doing very little, he expressed no regrets for the shameful Golden Years when he was Minister under Mintoff and KMB iz-Zero.”
He made way for Joseph Muscat’s grand plans for the country.
Karmenu Vella is now known officially as il-Fall Guy.
Times of Malta, I presume.
Perhaps it’s a typo. Try this:
Catcalls for Il-Guy.
A Sonk For Guy
Il-Guy, he was okay.
We lose him now forever.
EU, they take him away.
They know he’s very clever.
At Maltais Annus, Guy, my friend.
[Daphne – His backing in the EP elections didn’t help your wife much though, did it.]
Will he shame Malta just as John Dalli did?
