That leaves you, Tony Zarb

The Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry and the Union Haddiema Maghqudin have released statements of condemnation for the violation of Chinese workers at Leisure Clothing.

Good.

Now it remains for Tony Zarb and his Labour Party bridesmaid, the General Workers Union, to speak up. Otherwise we are going to have to draw some very NEGATIVE conclusions.

That fat slob, Tony Zarb, is wrapped up in all this.

He should be fed on a diet of worms, and I don’t mean the one held at Heylshof Garden.

  2. Beingpressed says:

So the boss has been arrested and released and the story has been covered all over the press.

Does this mean all the Chinese workers have been sent home?

Or have they all been properly engaged with E.T.C.

    • Makjavel says:

They will be employed in the construction of thr new power station , providing boiler suits for the other chinese that will work there.

  3. matt says:

Tony Zarb couldn’t care less about any workers. He is a demagogue. A phony. The Maltese media are shortchanging the people. Tony Zarb would not have survived all these years at the GWU had the journalists chased these stories eight years ago.

That fat tank of vinegar should thank his lucky stars that he wasn’t thrown in jail for obstructing the police in their work. We all remember him and his joker in red, Gejtu.

  4. canon says:

Of course the GWU condemns the abuse and exploitation at Leisure Clothing. La xitan irrid hekk.

  5. Albert Bonnici says:

Fat chance Tony Zarb will issue a statement. Precarjat bullshit

  6. gaetano pace says:

The only credible, genuine, proper statement that the GWU (Government With Union) should release is that the Chinese responsible for the degrading, inhuman, condemnable actions should be given a lesson first, followed by marching orders.

The union should stand by workers. It is simply accommodating the government at the expense not only of the worker on the shop floor but our industry as well.

The union has the practical example of the effect of illegal, degrading Chinese industry on the Italian economy. Clothes made by Chinese in circumstances none better than those of Leisure clothing, brand the product Made In Italy. They send it home to be sold on the Chinese market as creative latest fashion, sell for hefty fancy prices but always less for what a genuine Italian product fetches.

The effect on the Italian fabrics and clothing sales are devastating, leaving a domino effect on genuine Italian factories. We already have the Bortex example, incidentally, a firm I do not by any stretch of imagination recommend in solidarity with our Maltese, honest, hard working, reputable workers.

Investigations in such a case would be very interesting. Would a translator be another trusted employee of the company or someone brought in from the embassy? Either option gives one a warm fuzzy feeling, no doubt.

The possibilities for eyebrow raising moments in such cases are limitless. Local knowledge and abuse radars are stunted, whether by sheer dimness or palm greasing is anyone’s guess.

  10. Joe Fenech says:

Condemn? Unions should be calling for a police investigation.

But, as usual, this will be brushed under the carpet and nothing will happen.
