A lesson in public affairs handling which Konrad Mizzi needs to learn

As a result of Konrad Mizzi’s attempts to kill or suppress the story about how the government used (and continues to use) public money to make it possible for his wife to leave him for China, taking the children with her, my original blog-post about the subject has – up to this morning – been shared on Facebook 16,000 times and tweeted 3,000 times.

When he sued for libel and it was reported across all media repeatedly throughout Friday, and then again in print yesterday, there was a surge of views, FB shares and tweets, and then another surge last night when the DOI abusively and in an unprecedented move issued that statement about a minister’s personal matter.

Another surge has begun this morning.

Compare this to my Owen Bonnici/Super One journalist post, to which neither he nor the journalist in question, Janice Bartolo, reacted: that post was shared on FB 2,000 times and tweeted just a few times, compared to Konrad Mizzi’s 16,000 FB shares and 3,000 tweets and still counting.

Another reason why the story about Owen Bonnici has not spread so much is because you showed amazing restraint.

I am sure that you know much more than what you wrote. I and many others wait for the whole truth about Owen Bonnici to come out.

Yesterday’s effort to proclaim a strong marriage attempted to fudge the real issues: the report on petrol prices plummeting everywhere except in Malta returns focus on “delivery”. What a bunch of bungling imbeciles.

Now I really understand why Labour wants to regulate prostitution. It seems they have a brothel set up at mile end.

We were after all promised “the most feminist government ever.” It now seems the idea was conceived, born, grew and developed in the back-rooms of Super One.

They seem to have got good practice there as well. So many SUPER females got laid and found their fortune there. The woman power behind the throne, so to speak. Except that now it is becoming public.

Ok – we get it. No need to reiterate the ‘Streisand effect’ for the nth time.

Quite clearly, this is a not so veiled ‘caution’ (for want of a better word) to those who choose to pursue the matter legally. Shut up and weather the storm or face wave upon wave of relentless posts.

[Daphne – No, it is not, Jack. It is quite literally a lesson in public affairs handling. I used to work in that field for some years and it remains a particular sphere of interest. A lot of what I write is, in fact, about that – two recent examples being Simon Busuttil speaking about George Pullicino, and the PN’s Ideas Convention and how it wasn’t properly constructed to reach the audience out there. These are all public affairs matters and that is how I approach them. The political issues are incidental.]

Can someone please check whether the land in question falls within the planned projects.

So Konrad Mizzi has contributed to spreading the story. Will he sue himself?

  12. Jozef says:

Surely Saviour doesn’t need reminding how il-perit was the object of blackmail and what the consequences of that were.

Maybe the question to ask is who else knew about Konrad’s situation and obliged.

Chris Cardona made it absolutely clear he had no idea what was going on at Malta Enterprise, as did George Vella when questioned to Sai Mizzi’s handling of visas.

Bonnici’s a contender and Mizzi’s liable. What’s clear is that 2013 saw ONE TV elected to government, not Labour.
