Malta Taghna Lkoll! How much longer before the looting-machines break down and need servicing? Now we discover that the General Workers Union’s multiple snouts have been hard at it in the trough, too.

The government seems to have given some kind of directive for all ministries to buy their tickets from the GWU’s travel agency Untours (because you know how it is essential to buy air tickets through an agency in the internet booking age).

Between them, they have kept Untours afloat as other agencies go to the wall. In the 20 months since Labour got into government, Untours has creamed off €133,779.12 from eight government ministries. The Foreign Ministry is top (well, they’re the ones who should be travelling) with €62,786.34 worth of flight tickets bought from Tony Zarb. Then there’s Anton Refalo’s Gozo Ministry, which spent €27,615 on tickets with the GWU. Why would the Gozo Ministry need to travel abroad at all, let alone so often? The Opposition needs to investigate what Refalo is up to here.

The prime minister, Edward Zammit Lewis, Manuel Mallia and Owen Bonnici haven’t yet said how much money they’ve spent buying tickets from Tony Zarb. “The information is still being collated,” they said in response to Opposition MP Marthese Portelli’s question in parliament.

The registry of companies and individuals on the parallel economy is smaller than the ones that make up the voter mass of Taghna Lkoll.

Even there, not all are equal.

It will take them until 2028 to sift through the layer upon layer of promises not kept.

Hilarious how Louis Grech only managed a few hundred euros worth, when his bill should be the lions’ share.

“The Opposition needs to investigate what Refalo is up to here.”

True, but before that the Opposition needs to wake up from its slumber.
